Biography

Dream Theater’s knack for balancing the epic and the intimate has been a constant throughout the band’s lengthy evolution. The group first came together in 1985, when Petrucci, Portnoy and bassist John Myung were students at Boston’s Berklee School of Music. Initially known as Majesty, the nascent combo quickly gained a reputation in the grassroots metal underground, with ... Read more in Amazon's Dream Theater Store

Editorial Reviews

The Studio Albums 1992-2011 collects the first 10 studio albums from Dream Theater s groundbreaking two-decade-plus career, from 1992 s RIAA gold-certified classic debut, Images & Words to 2011 s GRAMMY® Award-nominated milestone, A Dramatic Turn of Events.

With total sales exceeding 10 million albums and DVDs worldwide, Dream Theater have long stood among the upper echelon of hard rock giants. Albums such as 1992 s RIAA gold-certified classic Images & Words (featuring the breakthrough top 10 single, "Pull Me Under") and 2002 s double album, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance have earned the Long Island-based band countless accolades for their visionary synthesis of melodic power and virtuosic experimentation, including being named as one of Rolling Stone s top 10 "Best Prog Rock Bands of All Time."

Everything you are promised and see you will receive.

There is just one thing that pushes my rating down drastically: The lack of the original 1989 album When Dream And Day Unite.
Jeremy Fallecker
Very good box set, again with basically a cardboard sleeve and the CD itself, It's all you need!

This is an excellent deal if you love Dream Theater but don't really own any of their CDs. All their studio albums are included for a really good price, minus the self titled one that was released most recently.

The downside: this is a small, CD sized cardboard box. There is nothing fancy about it. The back lists all the albums and their track listings, and the front has small thumbnail images of each album.

Inside, each CD is contained in a cardboard sleeve. The sleeve has the album artwork that appeared on the front an back of each album, but nothing else. There are no lyrics or liner notes included. You get a CD, a cardboard sleeve, and a cardboard box to keep them in. That's all.

It's a very good deal if you are only interested in the CDs, but it's too bare bones to be of any interest to collectors.

Great way to get the entire DT studio catalog (minus 2)! I got rid of my DT cds last year for some stupid reason, and was very pleased to see this collection. I have similar sets from ZZ Top, Yes and Rush, and find they are a really excellent, compact way to have all of these albums to stick in my car's cd player. Yes, I still prefer having a physical item with artwork vs. Squashed mp3 files. Call me old fashioned, I guess.

A masters class! Im amazed every day at just how good these guys are. Im ashamed to have missed it while it was happening but this collection has allowed me to get caught up. Im listening to them in order. I bought a special mp3 player and loaded them all. I spend a couple weeks with each cd on at the gym, work and car. I am going through them in order and i am on Scenes From A Memory. I am a happy person and i feel more peaceful since i discovered Dream Theater. It is comforting knowing these guys are out there and someone still practices their instruments and challenges what music can be. Thank you.

First of all, this collection was packaged like alot of other small box sets. Cardboard sleeve, no liners, and just the music cd. Fine with me.

Listening to Awake (1994) right now with my Motorheadphones as they give the music a very clear sound to the ear. Very good box set, again with basically a cardboard sleeve and the CD itself, It's all you need! For $50, why not?! Enjoy these albums!

I'm wondering if these albums have been secretly remastered or enhanced for better sound quality?!

Solid set of great albums. When Dream and Day Unite isn't on here as it is owned by MCA records...but you get the meat of a legendary catalog. The only downside is that there are no bonus tracks.

Everyone is complaining about the "missing album", but everyone seems to forget "A Change of Seasons". An epic 23:00 minute studio song.

I only recently (in the last 4 years or so) discovered Dream Theater. I would have paid more for the album art and all that, but was happy to get my hands on the music for a good price. For my purposes, this set was a very good bargain and very convenient.
