Absolutely fabulous book - goes over all the details of setting up and configuring your Mac or PC for doing computer based music production. Tons of in-depth reviews and advice on current software and hardware products. This book also covers some basic concepts for music production which will apply to ANY system you're working with. Even if you're not new to computer music and just want to know more about what software and hardware is available, with both pros and cons, this would be an excellent book to refer to.
