5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the best music of Italy, September 9, 2005
By
A viewer (Malta, Europe) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Studio Collection: Sanremo 2000 Edition (Audio CD)
This 'best of' album is a mess. It is not chronologic at all and all his 'regular' albums are also complicated, he usually includes his best songs from the few previous years on them.

HOWEVER, Amedeo Minghi is responsible for some of the best music that Italy ever produced (besides classic music...) he is a true maestro and her is the (my) thruth:

Create a compilation from this album and include my number 14 from his 'blue album' and you've got yourself a truly beautiful CD with probably the most beautiful Italian songs you will hear in a long time. The're all masterpieces and digitally remastered as well. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars If You Like Andrea Bocelli, Check Out This Album, August 10, 2000
By
"tocatta" (Lakewood, CA United States) - See all my reviews
A fabulous compilation of the greatest hits of Amadeo Minghi, an Italian pop star of gigantic proportion. The 2-CD set contains 30 songs taken from 11 album/CD's, 2 45's/singles, and 2 live performances, as well as 2 new recordings. The tracks span Minghi's career from 1976 to date. Each song is, on average, 5 minutes long, so we're talking almost 2 1/2 hours of music here. More musical bang for the buck than in most US releases. Minghi has an earthy warm voice that bring his lyrics to life, even if you don't know a word of Italian. The songs are written in ballad style, with Minghi's voice taking center stage. Perfect for romantic background music or just for listening to. Minghi has a less operatic and more husky voice than Andrea Bocelli, but with the same lyrical quality. I would have given this set 5-stars except that the keyboard accompanyment gets a bit monotonous if you listen to the CD continuously. My guess is that Minghi is a solo artist who accompanies himself on the keyboard. If you can find someone who reads Italian, you can translate the accompanying booklet and find out for sure. I would have preferred live backup musicians. But even with this slight imperfection, this CD is well worth your time. Forget that the CD is in Italian. Forget that you haven't heard Minghi on the Weekly Top 40. Take the plunge and buy this collection. If you like ballads, if you like lyric oriented music, if you like male vocalists, you will like it. Besides, you can impress all your friends with your knowledge of major European artists. Be a trendsetter. Buy this CD and be sure to tell your friends. You won't be disappointed.
