A solid music desk, April 27, 2007
This review is from: Studio RTA Creation Station Studio Desk (Cherry)
I wasn't expecting much of this... I've had a few of the "particle board and cam-lock" contraptions over the years, and mostly found them uninspiring. But this is built much more solidly than most (even home/office products from the same company), as if they knew that musicians would be wailing on it.
The desktop is 26.5 inches off the floor, which brings a synthesizer keyboard to about the right height... don't even think about adding a computer keyboard drawer underneath if you also want your legs to go there! In my case, I added a slanted shelf between the digital piano and the rack spaces, which accommmodates the iMac keyboard, mouse pad, control surface, and mixer.
The rack spaces, located as they are behind the synth, are not as useful as I thought they would be. But they hold up a decent top shelf, which is a perfect place for the computer.
The casters are much more robust than the usual cheesy ones that come with such things (even better than those on my BED, which has to handle a lot more weight). One tip... spin the screws on a bar of soap before driving them to provide a bit of lubrication.
This is a good product, and a decent deal. I'd buy it again.
