5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
When I bought this book a year ago, I was a newbie to 3D Studio Max, but not to animation and design. I agree that this book is not for the someone trying to learn animation, there are other books for that. This book has proven to be an invaluable resource in going to that next step in creation of realistic and exceptional animations. The lessons I learned about...

3.0 out of 5 stars Appropriate For Specific Aims
This book does teach the reader how to do certain things that come in handy, but you have to know how to get around in MAX to understand it. I found it useful, but only because I had spent the last month figuring out MAX by myself. Some ideas in the book are not particularly helpful, but there are many others that will enhance your pictures, and the CD comes with some...

I agree that this book is not for the someone trying to learn animation, there are other books for that. This book has proven to be an invaluable resource in going to that next step in creation of realistic and exceptional animations. The lessons I learned about applying textures to my models alone justify the purchase of this book. Highly recommended!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellently written book., October 7, 1999

Bell is an incredible author. Fantastic tutorials that were easy to understand and implement. There are better books out there for beginners, but for all you intermediate max users, you should have this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not A Book To Begin With, July 10, 1999

I Hated This Book...

It Was Not A Book Designed For People That Dont Know How To Use 3d Studio MAX. I could bearly get thru the first lesson without finding out everything for myself... Avoid this book if you are a beginner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definetly NOT a book for dummies., June 21, 1999

This review is from: 3D Studio Max R2.5 f/x (Paperback)
This book is a fantastic tool for those people who are tired of making flat, plastic 3D images. If you have already learned the basics of 3D Studio Max, this book will guide you into new levels of competence by focusing in using the rich features of the software to add a doze of reality to your scenes. This is not a book on how to use 3D Studio Max, but rather on how to use it well. The lessons contained assume a certain level of comfort with the interface and might scare (or dissapoint) those seeking hand-holding tutorials. For the rest of us, who want to raise the quality of their renderings to professional quality, this book is a must read.

The companion CD is invaluable. I'd gladly would have paid the price of the book for just one of the plugins contained in the CD: Greeble.

If you want to get your money's worth with 3DSMax, BUY THIS BOOK!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the book for newbies!, September 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 3D Studio Max R2.5 f/x (Paperback)
I bought this book, a newbie, thinking It would greatly increase my MAX skills. Unfortunately, it turned out this book is NOT a beginner's book, although it is intended to be. I found it hard to use and somewhat frustrating. The CD has bugs in it, and some of the tutorials were hard to understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, September 16, 1999

This review is from: 3D Studio Max R2.5 f/x (Paperback)
Well I do agree that the book is for intermediate or adavnced users but I never read the stupid manuals (i don't read many manuals, there just annoying) but I got almost every concept in the book. The who gave this book a 2 must be an idiot. Ha! how does it feel to get out-smarted by an 16 year old.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book (Not for begginers), August 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 3D Studio Max R2.5 f/x (Paperback)
I originally bought this book with only a basic knowledge of 3dsMax. Since then though, I understand so much more than I ever would have reading online tutorials. This book is not for the Absolute Begginer. Having at least some background in the program is required. The lessons taught however are very good, and have helped me in every thing I have created since getting this book. The only reason this book fails to get a 5 star rating is that there were some problems on the CD which took some time to work out. I highly reccommend this book to anyone looking to get a better grasp on how to use 3dsMax.
