Product Description

Studio Neat Glif Tripod Mount & Stand for iPhone 4 & 4S The Glif is an iPhone 4/4S accessory with two primary functions: mounting your iPhone onto a tripod and propping up your iPhone at various angles. The goal was to create something small, simple.

I bought a Glif during their Kickstarter campaign and it was definitely worth it.

It is a thinner phone than the iPhone 4, but if you use it along with a protective case, it fits this tripod mount perfectly.
Zane Ross
You will be amazed at the photographs and video you can capture using the Glif in combination with the tripod of your choice.

This is a great mount for the iPhone 4 & 4S. It works better than any other iPhone mount that I've seen. Also included in this review is the Serif & Ligature, also made by Studio Neat. Please see video for details.

This product does EXACTLY what you need it to do. The problem is a lot of people don't really understand what they WANT it to do.

My team and I used this little piece to successfully record 3 television commercials on a new iPhone 4s. That's right. This little piece allowed us to fully integrate into our high-end production equipment and successfully get stellar shots that shocked our clients and passer-bys alike that we were using a smartphone to achieve the look and feel we were wanting.

The Glif is probably one of the best engineered pieces I've seen for a sub-$20 accessory on the iPhone. The grip is tight enough that we used the camera in multiple positions, including upside down on a balancing rig to get a low-profile picture field and had zero issues with any dropping of the phone. The greatest part about this is that you can USE your phone for projects like this. I would rather use my phone to capture ground-level or low-profile action shots where we used to be conscerned about getting our professional camera equipment hit or jostled.

Buy this if you are a novice photographer or videographer who wants to get the BEST out of your iPhone. And if you are a professional and want to take a step out of your comfort zone - this is the BEST $20 accessory I could recommend you buy!

FOLLOW-UP (4/11/2012): this piece is still a mainstay in our bag of tricks. Now with the addition of the + package, they just added another safety that provides additional piece of mind, especially when using near or above water.

The Glif is a great product. It functions as a tripod mount for the iPhone, and can be placed to hold the iPhone in a number of great ways for hands-free usage. I use it with a gorillapod for time-lapse movies and GPS navigation all the times. The product is very well designed and the finishing is better than I expected. Very worth the $20 price tag!

I wanted to like the Glif. I really did. I heard about it when it was still incubating on kickstarter, but I didn't have an iPhone then so it was only a curiosity at the time. I have an iPhone now thanks to Sprint finally getting their act together, and I was impressed enough with the photos and videos that it takes to want to use it in place of my regular point-and-shoot. However, since the iPhone is still primarily a phone, it doesn't have a tripod mount. Enter the Glif.

I watched the youtube reviews, I read all the glowing Amazon reviews, and took the plunge with high hopes. However, the reality doesn't live up to the hype. It's true that it's a snug fit for the iPhone, but it is not a secure kind of snug. My iPhone fell out while I was placing the Glif + iPhone on my Gorillapod tripod, and luckily only fell a few inches onto the table. I can't imagine actually trying to use this thing mounted on a tripod to take pictures or video while out and about, I'd be paranoid about my phone falling out. Doubly so, since as others have said, there is no way to use a protective case with this thing.

The kickstand feature is also greatly overrated. I'll admit that it works well in landscape mode, but it does block a portion of the screen unless you clip it off to the side rather than on top. It doesn't work very well at all in portait mode, since you can't raise the Glif very far up the side of the phone before the whole setup topples over due to being imbalanced.

Bottom line, the Glif is a nice idea, but is not really practical. There are those that seem to really like it, and that's cool, but my opinion is that this thing is more an interesting curiosity due to the story behind it rather than a practical tool.

I purchased the Joby mobilepod and was disappointed when it ruined my nice powersupport screen protector. My mistake, I'm just not used to dealing with cases that are incompatible with screen protectors. So, I returned it and bought the glif.

Unlike a couple of the reviewers, I don't think it doesn't have a good grip on the phone. I wouldn't let it grip my phone over a body of water or something, but I don't need to do anything extreme with it (let alone anywhere besides my desk).

I was a little sad to see on Studio Neat's site that about a week after I bought this on Amazon, they released a "plus" version that comes with a second clip that hold the phone even more securely on the regular glif. I think it's a little more, but I'm hoping I can e-mail them and they'll send me one for a couple of dollars. Regardless, this product is simple and works. It gets the "I'd give it 5 stars if it was just cheaper."

Update: I see on their website that you can buy the Glif+ additions for $11. Not the greatest deal for what is just a little piece of plastic and a keyring attachement. I probably won't end up buying this and eventually I would hope they'll drop the price for the entire Glif+ package to $20. I think they're starting to push the limits of the value of such a simple product.
