5.0 out of 5 stars 34 Essays, June 29, 2006
This review is from: The Study of Folklore (Hardcover)
Sure this 1965 collection of essays is dated, but there are some basic, classical studies here, appearing originally in professional journals and periodicals not widely available today, including Stith Thompson, Archer Taylor, Richard Dorson, Francis Utley, Axel Olrik, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Textbook for UCB, November 10, 2008

This review is from: The Study of Folklore (Hardcover)
My copy of this book was the textbook for a 1968 anthropology course I took at the University of California at Berkeley taught by Professor Dundes. An anthology, it includes his own original essay "Structural Typology in North American Indian Folktales." Fascinating essays on the origins of, transmission of, functions in society of folklore and several studies showing how related folktales, games and myths can be used to show the relatedness of different cultures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and Impressive, February 8, 2009
This review is from: The Study of Folklore (Hardcover)
The book was in a very condition though it's been used. Quite impressed with what I saw! I got the book for my very good and close friend. I'm sure he's going to have a swell time reading it, and having it for keeps.
