Long story short: I would absolutely recommend, and YOU MUST ALSO OWN THE SOLUTIONS MANUAL!!! Also, you really do need a model kit.

The author and editors did a fabulous job. Seriously, two-and-a-half thumbs up. This is my favorite text book (ever), mainly because it was the most I ever relied on a book for a grade, but also because I really have never noticed a layout like this. For chemistry, this book is written to "easily" digest: the sections are like an instructor's notes, with brief explanations followed by examples which increase in difficulty. Compared to other O-chem books, which have pages of paragraphs of impossibly boring material and example problems at the end.

I am not a chemistry major, so one might say the material is dumbed-down? Put into layman's terms. I really have never studied a book laid out like this. I actually commented to my teacher how much I liked it!

You really will need the solutions manual (or access to one) because there are no answers in the book. I was pleased with how detailed the appendix was.

It is a big, HEAVY book, especially when coupled with the solutions manual and any other books for the day. I did not see the electronic version (guy in my class used it with his iPad and no complaints), but I would definitely recommend checking into it.

I used this solutions manual extensively during my Organic Chemistry class this past term. When I used this manual to help study, my exam scores were 10-15 points higher than when I did not use the book. This manual is not just an answer key like many textbooks (particularly math books) include in the back; this is a full solutions book. By this I mean the manual has the entire solution, including all the steps involved to reach the answer, for every single problem in the Smith Organic Chem (3rd edition) text. Physically speaking, the manual is an 8.5x11 B/W paperback volume about an inch thick. The color image that appears above is actually the cover of the textbook it goes with. To sum up, the content of the solution manual is great and dramatically improved my test scores, but the price is very high.

For Organic Chem students, this solutions manual is practically essential. Every problem in the book is explained. Very helpful for figuring out the very challenging problems in the book.

While I think it's a bit devious to require the purchase of a separate solutions manual (they could have given the odd answers, for example, in the text), this manual is very good and well worth the purchase. The manual offers far more than simply a list of correct answers, giving background information at the beginning of each chapter and thorough explanations for each answer given. I am very glad I bought this book.

The review is very helpful for my organic chemistry class. I no longer get stuck on homework problems and following along in class is much easier to do now. It is so helpful that my teacher recommended it to the entire class.

I know this already before buying: this Study Guide should be black and white, not Color (only textbook is color).
However, the price is much better than buying from local bookstore.

This Study Guide for Organic Chemistry by Janice Smith is very helpful to double check answers. It gives detailed, step-by-step processes for each problem from the textbook. Definately a must for organic students!

This is by far the best Solutions Manual I have had in chemistry. It completely explains the answers and gives more explanation in addition to the already superlative accompanying text. In my opinion it is essential to own this manual.

I ordered this book to help me with organic chemistry, and I do not regret it at all. Made grade has gone up to an A after purchasing this book, and I absolutely love it. It was not possible to know the answers to the text book problems without it. Organic chemistry requires a lot of practice, so if you buy the textbook, it is a necessity to also purchase the solutions manual. Your life will be so much easier with it.

I am disgusted tha this publisher chose not to put at least the answers to the odd end of chapter questions with the textbook. This is standard. Instead, you have to spend another $100 to buy the solutions manual.
