This is a carefully written, beautifully expressed book that explains all about how people (especially children, but adults too), develop concepts in their minds. Its examples are great, and the material the authors put into this book was not previously published in journal articles, but all saved up for the book. Yes, it does have a psychological flavor, but it is eminently accessible to non-psychologists. It is a real gem, and should be read by every teacher from grade school to higher education. Despite the fact that it was published back in 1956, I read it recently, and found just what I was looking for: illumination on concept acquisition. If you know Vygotsky's work, or about 'threshold concepts', this volume would be the perfect complement. Well worth the money and shipping.
