I decided to get this "automatic" gun despite the negative reviews I read because I desperately needed more firepower!
I was at first curious as to how this gun worked because I couldn't see how 3 AA batteries could build up that much air pressure in such a short time, but I've found that this gun doesn't use air pressure at all. It shoots out the Nerf darts by pushing them through two spinning wheels much like how an automatic football or tennis ball thrower works. Here are my comments on the most important features of a Nerf gun: 1) Power: Quite powerful, more power than your regular spring powered piston pushing Nerf gun and as powerful as some of the hand pumped air pressure Nerf guns. Grade: Very good. 2) Speed: As advertised, this gun can pump out shots quickly and plaster your opponent with bullets before he can hand pump out 2 or 3. This is really a semi-automatic machine gun. Only problem is that you'll run out of bullets in 15 seconds if you fire continuously. Grade: Excellent. 3) Jamming: Yes it does, but then so does any other Nerf gun. All Nerfs misfire or jam to some degree due to badly fitting bullets or misrotating barrels so this isn't a big deal to me. The problem I see is that you have to squeeze the trigger firmly. If you half heartedly squeeze the trigger the gun can jam, so I think some of the jamming can be put down as operator error. Grade: Somewhat. 4) Accuracy: Surprisingly accurate, except when it shoots crooked darts, so just make sure all your darts are straight. Grade: Very good. The yellow Tommy 20 is the "semi-automatic". To shoot, you first have to turn the spinners on with a switch and then manually pull the trigger for each shot. The green Tommy 20 is the "full auto", there is no extra switch, you pull the trigger and the spinners start spinning. Each has it's pros and cons. With the green Tommy 20, it takes a few seconds for the spinner to get up to speed so the first shot is always poor (check my other review), but you don't have to keep pulling the trigger. With the yellow Tommy 20, you have the extra step of turning on the spinners first, but the first shot is always good. Pros and Cons: As this is a battery operated gun, you can't really use it in a duck and fire situation as continuously using the battery will run it down quickly. For duck and fire, you'd need a manual gun. This gun is for when your opponent is being pinned down and you run up to him and score like 20 shots on his behind. And because of the noise of the motor you can't use it in any stealth situation either because your opponents will hear you from a mile away. So as any true Nerf warrior knows, you need more than 1 gun at all times. You use this as a machine gun when your opponents are charging you or when you need to spray them with bullets; for those purposes this is truly an excellent gun and a necessary addition to any good arsenal. This gun comes in green or yellow, either one is a must buy! Postcript/3 month review: To avoid jamming, you must only use the darts that come with this gun. Even the replacement BuzzBee darts are different. I now only use the BuzzBee darts without the purple collar under the suction head, they are shorter and won't jam. The ones with the purple collar are slightly longer and cause jamming. And make sure all the darts are straight; bent darts can also cause jamming. Simple mod: I have modified the gun by taking that red muzzle off. You can do that by unscrewing 4 screws at the front and just pulling it off, it's not glued. By taking the muzzle off you reduce jamming and you can unjam the gun quickly by simply reaching in the mouth of the gun and pulling the jammed darts out. It doesn't reduce accuracy or range. Postscript/6 month review: This is the 2nd gun chosen in firefights (the first gun chosen being the Tommy20 automatic) I think that says a lot for this gun.

I have 3 boys who play with this all the time and love it! And it has already survived 2 months of use! I am impressed and so are they!

This dart blaster is great stuff for kids. Due to the force with which this gun shoots, I had my kids use googles. The gun has a problem which is that it does jam occasionally and when you go to clear it, the loading caps can fly out of the barrel in the direction of the eyes....However, as with any toy that "blasts" as long as caution is used, it is a great toy.

This review is for the Ruff Stuff Air Blasters Motorized Mech Tommy 20 Dart Blaster. The gun has comparable range to other nerf type guns. What the gun lacks in accuracy it makes up for with the rapid fire shots 20 dart capacity. The motor is a little bit noisy but so is pumping those other guns too right?
Also, you this gun is really fun when you use the Nerf dart tag velcro bullets. The only problem is you have to cut the ends off of those bullets because they are too long for this gun. Overall, a pretty decent gun.

I had no idea how this gun worked before I got it, but figured since it could fire 20 darts it would be decent. It's a pretty good gun, it uses two spinning plastic discs to hurl the darts forward. The problem with this, is that it isn't always accurate, depending on how the dart gets ejected into them, and also it's kind of loud when it's on. But you can fire 20 darts within a few seconds, that still makes it very fun.
I've already lost 2 darts though, and only emptied the clip a few times. Now I need to find the refills someplace.

I recently got this gun because i felt like i needed a new one for my collection. I was expecting a good gun but not anything super good. When i shoot it the first time i was amazed at it's power. It can proably shoot out a entire round (20 darts) in about 8 seconds if you have fast fingers. This is without a doubt one of the best dart guns ever. I wouldn't suggest any one purchising it for someone under 8 years old. I am 14 and I was sort of surprised at its recomended age. The only major problems it has is that it jams up and miss fires easily. For the price you should defiantly buy it!

Both my sons, ages 6 an 9, received this for Christmas. My 9 year old LOVES it! He has had no problems loading or shooting it at all. My younger son (6) can't seem to get the hang of it. His darts keep jamming and won't shoot when he pulls the trigger. It's not the gun because he has the same problems when he tries to shoot his brother's gun and my older son can shoot both guns well. So, this gun is TONS of fun, but probably not for littler children.

Well I had 50 dollars one day and decided to buy this for $24.99 thinking it'd be awesome and be a good competition for Nerf. I was so wrong!!! First of all it isn't fully automatic which is a big setback when you have Nerf wars with your friends. Instead, it was semi auto which wouldn't be so bad if it didn't make sooo much noise and didn't constantly jam. You can modify it but you have to know what you're doing with an electrical motor. Even if you did modify it it'd still be a pain unjamming it. Oh and the bullets fall out real easily. I have to say it is pretty darn durable though. Overall, don't buy it unless it is only $10. Thanks for reading.:)

Probably the best semi-automatic Nerf weapon I have ever owned. Okay, so it's the first semi-auto Nerf gun I've ever gotten, but still... I recommend it, but be careful with it because if a dart is pushed out a LITTLE too far, it will get caught and you have to turn off the gun, unclog the dart, and then resume. Also, it really gives you an exercise while trying to find the lost darts! I highly recommend this gun.
