5.0 out of 5 stars He's a genius!, September 12, 2001

Dick Devenzio has written a masterpiece. As a high school player reading this book, I couldn't wait till I could get back out onto the court to try all my new tricks. I became a much better player because of this book. Now as a college basketball player I find myself using the same techniques and receiving the same great sense of accomplishment after somebody asks me, "where did you learn that?" So I tell them. This book isn't just about basketball, it's about teaching yourself to become a better person as well. There are many lessons to be learned.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best book about basketball, July 4, 2002
This review is from: Stuff: Good Players Should Know (Hardcover)
If you are a young player like me (I'm 19), and still have a lot to learn about basketball, this book is a must have. My own understanding of the game has improved big time reading this book, and I seriously recommend it for all those players who often stop on the court thinking: "What should I have done in that situation" or, "Where did I go wrong". DeVenzio writes about all the "little things" in the game, as he describes it, that your coach might not have the time or knowledge to teach you. And he writes in an easily understandable way which often leave you thinking; "Wow!" and "Aha!". This book separates itself from the vast number of basketball-books on the market. Buy a copy know!

5.0 out of 5 stars God is in the details!, November 18, 2002
By
This review is from: Stuff: Good Players Should Know (Hardcover)
Just as legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden described himself simply as a "teacher", so should Dick Devenzio. Over the last ten to fifteen years, the game of basketball has changed a great deal and not for the better. Yes, players today are bigger, stronger, quicker and more athletic then their counterparts of yesteryear but therein lies the problem. Today's players depend too heavily on their athleticism and consequently have never learned (or been taught!) the skills or developed the basketball I.Q. needed to reach their full potential. Devenzio's book is a powerfull vaccine against this disease whch has been looming around the hardwood for far too long. If you are a player or a coach at any level, this is a must read. A+

I bought this book back in the early 80s when I was a wannabe player, and kept it through the years. Now my daughter is a middle school player & loves the book. It is simply the best basketball instructional book I have ever seen. It is truly sad that Dick Devenzio died so young.

This book is a very good book for the serious player. It doesn't concentrate on fundamentals but on the more important and advanced aspects of the game. This book will help you improve your game tremendously, especialy in the mental area. Good luck and good reading.

This book is, in my opinion, the best book about basketball that I have ever read. A close second is Dick's book "There's Only One Way to Win". If you love basketball and aren't looking for the same old dull and dry drills, check out Dick's unique perspective on everything from fundamentals to your mental approach to the game. If you play or coach, this is a "must-see"!
