Usually, when I get a CD, I put it in and immediately start pushing the scan button to hear everything. Most often, I end up getting to the last track and removing the CD because nothing grabbed me. But with this disk, I put it in earlier and am on track 7 without scanning. I want to hear every song. It's very nice. She is pleasing to hear and some of the lyrics are already starting to jump out at me, which is refreshing. She has sort of a Cranberries meets Ani Difranco sound, but both of their best qualities, not the stuff that makes me not buy some of their stuff. She does b*tch rock with a vengance and turns around and tells sadness beautifully. I'm impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars " If you cared at all you'd put me down ", June 14, 2005

Amazing razor sharp lyrics and the perfect songs make this my favorite female rock cd of all time. Absolutely playable from beginning to end without any bullsh*t filler songs to be found.

My favorite tracks are UFO, Porno mouth, Elmo, I won't stay, Numb and Coward (in that order). Mystery song is sexy, something to strip to lol*

I saw Holly at Commodore two years ago and she is every bit as good live. Check her out if you have the chance. I recommend this cd, it's the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars i like miss mcnarland, July 16, 2001

despite looking like a small and fragile singer, holly mcnarland's voice is powerful and angst ridden. listening to this album just makes me feel lucky that i don't owe her any debts or i have never wronged her in any way. but don't get me wrong, the songs sound amazing and with these lyrics it definetly should be sung with emotion and anger. personal fave song would be "i won't stay", the harmony between holly's voice and the accoustic guitar is just too beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fish In My Brain, February 27, 2002

I bought this CD over a year ago and it has remained in my CD changer in my car ever since. This is a wonderful CD, following on from her Sour Pie EP. Stand-out tunes - Elmo, Coward, Numb and Twisty Mirror, but there is not a bad one on here. The lyrics are cutting and with Holly's stunning voice it amazes me that she is not more successful. Her new CD is due out soon and I for one can't wait.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cats and carpets, March 5, 2001
This review is from: Stuff (Audio CD)
Holly McNarland's songs are poignant and truthful, and her sound is equal to match her ferocity. Mostly rock, but some pop leanings, and overall a superb CD. I adore "Elmo", "Numb", "Coward", "I Won't Stay", and "Mystery Song" the most. This CD is perfect when in need of a catharsis, or just to shake the walls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotionally drenched, September 29, 1998

This review is from: Stuff (Audio CD)
It's raw and real, the lyrics don't hide anything and Holly McNarland is one of the best songwriters I've ever had the chance to hear and see live. Those vocals of her stretched to every side of the stadium and left an impression that will last for a long while.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best thing I have heard in years., July 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Stuff (Audio CD)
If you are sick of the overly sensitive lyrics and breathless delivery of many popular female artists today, then you will love this CD.

Holly has a powerful voice and is backed by a good band. The only downside is that she sounds better live than on this recording!
