Editorial Reviews

Review

'Maloney and his partner, the architect Hermes Mallea, design houses and apartments for clients who collect Modiglianis and Roman sculpture, but for the first book on their work, the last thing they wanted was a standard coffee-table monograph, full of beautiful but static photographs.'

(New York Times Magazine)

'The tome is more than a portfolio of pretty interiors or striking architecture—it features an interactive component that allows readers to access the museums, dealers, shops and more that Maloney himself consults.'

(Time.Com)

'This book is a treasure trove. It's all the magnificent obsession.'

(New York Social Diary)

Carey Maloney invites readers inside the homes of impassioned collectors, detailing the wide variety of art and objects that go into the creation of M(Group)’s complex, richly layered, and beautifully orchestrated interiors.

(EditorAtLarge.com)

Designer Carey Maloney’s first book is an obsessive, compulsive, brilliantly high-low primer to all the things—furniture, art, objects—that make a house truly personal.
(House Beautiful)

Maloney is too deeply interested in the history of design to miss an opportunity to use and highlight a fascinating piece, wherever it comes from. His just-so placement saves it from busyness…

The official motto of Stuff is ‘Have fun—and learn something.’ Mission accomplished on both counts.

(1stDibs Style Compass)

Interior designer Carey Maloney … has the enviable gift of making his interests, be they erudite or off-the-wall, compelling and entertaining to others.

… Maloney uses erudition, anecdote, and telling detail to convey his passion for the things he puts in rooms.

(Rural Intelligence)

It's marvelous! Stuff is a visual delight, highly entertaining, and jam-packed with interesting information.
(Reggie Darling)

Five or six pages have glaring misprints that are bothersome, and I can only hope that my book is an anomaly.

I do not like writing reviews. But I love this book very much and must tell the world! The photography is first rate and the notes and ideas are masterclass in interior design.
This book tells you how to add character and color to your interiors using your collections. And for those who are unsure of what to buy to add the WOW factor to their home, this book will give you lots of ideas.
I especially like their web-links, for those who want to know more than the superficial.
Even if you are into the minimalist decor, i bet you will find inspiration from the very original photos and ideas.
If you are undecided to buy, then hear, hear!
Highly recommended.

This book is wonderful! it's like having a conversation with the author, and he gives permission to create a personal space with your "stuff" in an un-stuffy way and still with good taste. Really delightful!

Carey Maloney has achieved something very special with his newly released book "Stuff". It is pretty, informative, clever, and full of surprises. On its own this is a great book. When you then add the easy to use interactive guide, it becomes a magical mystery tour. Warning - can be addictive.

Great reference book! Beautiful photographs throughout on high quality paper. Inspiring work from cover to cover. It isn't exactly worthy of your living room coffee table and that's why i gave it 4 stars. I'm very happy overall.

When I first looked through this book, my response was "nice but not exciting". This is a book that one has to read multiple times to really "GET IT". The more you read the more you learn.

Mr. Maloney knows his stuff. A delightful book full of images of (what else) stuff and decorated rooms. The anecdotes are funny without being gossipy. The information is short (maybe a fault for some who are introduced to some of the stuff) and to the point. And the interactive feature seems intriguing enough to try it (I haven't). Lovely book.
