Product Description

In the desert, on safari, up a mountain or simply on the move, the Solargorilla solar charger gives your Powergorilla juice anywhere under the sun. Solargorilla portable charger is also a viable charging option for laptops under 40 watts and it can even charge your mobile phone, iPod, handheld games consoles and many more devices from the 5V USB output. Solargorilla portable charger works via two PV (photovoltaic) solar panels, which generate electric current when they are exposed to sunlight. The solar panels are made of glass which greatly improves the performance of the Solargorilla solar charger as well as making the aesthetics of the unit better. The green LED on the Solargorilla portable charger indicates the strength of charge - the more UV intensity - the better it will work! The technically advanced solar panels ensure superb power and reliable performance, all housed in a tough outer casing. Note: Solargorilla is a charging option. It is primarily designed to be used in conjunction with the Powergorilla and may not work with some laptops over 40 watts directly. It relies on the UV intensity of the sun. Therefore, at certain times of the year it may not be suitable for use in the Northern Hemisphere unless combined with the Powergorilla. The Solargorilla solar charger has been trialed successfully in the Southern Hemisphere by aid agencies, emergency services, the military and adventure travellers, where power is a crucial element of their communications strategy. To use with Macbook, Macbook Air and Macbook Pro you will need an Apple MagSafe airline adaptor or our alternate connection solution and one of our universal car charger sockets. The MagSafe adaptor is available to buy from us. Please note: the MagSafe cable is only suitable for Apple Macs incorporating the MagSafe style of connector. You may require the L77D tip for the older Mac laptops (such as powerbook).

I bought the product a couple of months ago when the weather in UK was cool. As I received the product. I checked it with my mobile phone, it worked well. When I attached it to my toshiba satellite pro A120 laptop while running on battery, I was suprized that the laptop power option was showing now running on AC, however, after a few minutes, I found my laptop battery charge was deminishing. I waited for the summer to come and see how it works in full sunshine to exploit its full capacity. A total disappointment. As I put it in direct sunlight and plugged into my laptop, at first it was charging my laptop but after a few minutes when it was warmed up in the sun for a while,it caused my laptop to auto shutdown. And this happened consistantly each time causing my laptop to shutdown as and when I plugged it into my latop after being put for a while in direct sun. It goes wrong when it is put in direct sunlight due to heating of its panels. If you want to use it in winter it might work but it is definitely not suitable for summer months (even not for a UK summer which comparatively cool). But the real problem is that you dont get good sunlight in winter. It is in summer when the sun light is at its best. I dont know whether it becomes short-circuited or some other abnormality occurs when it is put in strong sunlight for a while. Each time I had to remove my laptop battery to turn it on after it was shutdown by the solargorilla. Unfotunately, no warranty is offered with this product, so I cant return it. It is just a waste of money. I have contacted powertraveller about this. They suggested to use some shield with it to protect it from hot sun. Can you believe it? A product that is made to harvest light energy to make electricity needs to be protected from strong sunshine. It is just rediculous.

Utter crap. A scam. Three months after use I left it in the sun one day to fully charge my iPod.

I came back and it melted.

Great work you clowns. I want my money back.

Bought this along with the powergorilla (which is substantially better than this product). Performance was nowhere near what I expected; very disappointed.

Pros:
Easily folds for travel
Lightweight
Large area for solar collection
Large hole on top of panel makes hanging it up easy

Cons:
Charges VERY, VERY slowly regardless of sunshine; takes days to charge the PowerGorilla (not kidding)
Seems that only one panel actually works (could just be a defect with mine, but check yours out)
Somewhat fragile; easily broke when I dropped it on accident
Plastic melts in high heat if you're not careful

Overall, I do not recommend this panel. Its charge is too weak, and doesn't work well in muted sunlight. If you like the powergorilla and want a solar charger, FIND SOMETHING ELSE. This product is way too far below expectations for its price.
