Automatic watches do not operate on batteries. Automatic watches are made up of about 130 or more parts that work together to tell time. Automatic movements mark the passage of time by a series of gear mechanisms, and are wound by the movement of your wrist as you wear it. The gear train then transmits the power to the escapement, which distributes the impulses, turning the balance wheel. The balance wheel is the time regulating organ of a mechanical watch, which vibrates on a spiral hairspring. Lengthening or shortening the balance spring makes the balance wheel go faster or slower to advance or retard the watch. The travel of the balance wheel from one extreme to the other and back again is called oscillation. Lastly, automatic movements come in different types, including movements that are Swiss-made, Japanese-made, and more.
Also referred to as self-winding, watches with automatic movements utilize kinetic energy, the swinging of your arm, to provide energy to an oscillating rotor to keep the watch ticking. They're considered more satisfying to watch collectors (horologists) because of the engineering artistry that goes into the hundreds of parts that make up the movement. I've been wearing this watch for about 6 months. I bought it from another website. It came in a nice box with extra strap (brown) and certificate. Really nice looking. I like the look. You can see the mechanics from the back and front, really cool. I have small wrist, most time I use the 2nd to the last hole, fits just fine. I have no problem with the fitting. This is my first mechanical watch. Perhaps I still don't know how it works. The watch will run fast for a couple of minutes every other day. I found myself constantly adjusting it back. For example, I corrected it to the right time yesterday morning before leaving for work. Now it's two minutes ahead of the actual time again. In the end, a watch needs to tell me what time it is, not me adjust it to the right time. So only 2 stars. Otherwise, it's a beautiful piece of work.

This timepiece looks very elegant, and I love the clockwork inside it. It's really fascinating to see a watch literally tick inside. Unfortunately, I won't be wearing this watch very often, as the case is more than half an inch thick and it doesn't fit comfortably on my wrist. I do have a very slim wrist; however, I find it hard to imagine this will fit most women's wrists well, as the watch is bigger than even many men's watches. The issue was when I bent my wrist upward, the crown would dig into the back of my hand. The leather strap was also very stiff, so there wasn't much flexibility and freedom of movement. If the case was thinner and the face smaller, this watch would be perfect. But even though I think it's a beautiful watch, it looks too big on my arm and gets in the way of my wrist and hand movement.

This is a beautiful watch BUT it died every time you take it off. The extra leather band is also nice but it's kind of hard to change out.
