Stuhrling Original Men's 287.33591 Nautica Sports Swiss Quartz Black Dial Watch

I have been collecting a large variety of timepieces for years now, and I have a few Stuhrling Original Watches. All have had minor issues; chronograph hand never resets back to 12-o-clock position, chronograph buttons stop working, loose bezels, runs 3 minutes fast per day. All these things I have fixed myself or with the help of jewelers. I started noticing that this company has consistent issues with their quality control. I have bought watches for much less, and had little or no problems at all after years.

I received this watch as a gift, and I was initially very happy with it, until I tried wearing it. I tried sizing the watch and was unable to get the screws out of the links. I took it to 3 different jewelers who said that the pins were fused to the link itself due to severe over tightening by the manufacturer (often done my their machines if assembled improperly). Amazon painlessly exchanged this for the same model. The second time around I was able to size it and enjoyed wearing it, and received many compliments on the watch. After the first day I noticed that just from normal wear, the clasp on the watchband had bent because Stuhrling used terribly cheap steel. After one month, the Day Sub-dial hand fell off.

Under warranty I had to pay $20 in addition to shipping costs to send it to Stuhrling's location in Brooklyn, NY. I got it back in about one week (impressive) and the hand was repaired. I tried it on and walked into the other room wearing it. I looked down again, and the hand had fallen off again! I have left messages and emails with this company, and I have gotten no response.

Stuhrling Original makes many nice looking watches, but I HIGHLY recommend that you look at another watch company! They're poorly made, have horrible quality control, and even worse customer service. For the money, you can find a timepiece made by many other companies that will last you a lifetime.

When I first received this watch I was impressed with it's overall look and feel. It appeared to be well made till I tried to operate the push buttons. The red upper push button is supposed to operate the different modes of the watch. However when I first depressed the button, the button stayed in and wouldn't come back out. I tried to twist the housing of the button to get it to come out, and it did...a little, but as soon as I tried it, once again it stayed in and would not come back out. After several attempts to fix it I eventually gave up.

Maybe is was simply a bad one from the factory. Maybe not. I tried to exchange for another one to find out but Amazon said it could only be returned and then if I wanted I could purchase it again. I really did not want to go through all that so I decided not to purchase again. At least not now.

I will continue to check Amazon's reviews to see if others have better luck before I make a decision to get again.

My First Stuhrling Watch. Have to say, it is a very beautiful Timepiece. I have recieved many compliments on it as soon as I wrapped it on my wrist.

Comfortable and the tuning instructions were detailed and easy to follow.


Sizing took a minute to figure out.

Very Important: I now know it is a higher end band as it uses screw in pins and not the push in push out style.

Overall very satisfied with this timepiece.
