If you like Joan Sutherland, you must have this. There are great photos, interviews, opera scenes, and everything envolving Joan's life.
One moment shows Joan singing with Dinah Carrol and Ella Fitzgerald.
You'll love it.!!!!!!!!!!!

A good introduction to the career of Joan Sutherland, April 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: La Stupenda [VHS] (VHS Tape)
La Stupenda- A portrait of Dame Joan Sutherland is a good introduction to the Diva's long operatic career. It gives the viewer a clear oversight of her career and her most famous roles, from the Hoffmann heroines at the beginning to her last perfomances in Les Huguenots in the 1990s.
The reason why I cannot give this video the ultimate accolade, is because it doesn't give you enough detail on her early career. There was a little too much of certain roles and practically nothing on really interesting stuff like Handel's Alcina which was a disappointment. However there were some marvellous touches, as when she was being interviewed by Australian journalists on her homcoming tour and her dazzling performance of Filina's polonaise from Thomas' Mignon.I also liked her early interview after her triumphant Lucia in 1959 and the staged black and white footage of the role set in a scottisn castle .
I also thought there was a little too much chatting to Richard , her husband although he does play a very dominant role in her career. I wanted to find out about the real Joan.
On the whole I think this is a good intro to Joan's work, although if you are a hardcore fan, you are bound to remain disappointed.
