4.0 out of 5 stars Stupid Cupid by Rhonda Stapleton, December 22, 2009
This review is from: Stupid Cupid (Paperback)
This was a very cute book and a great start to a new trilogy. I'm a big fan of reading romances and this was really fun to read. Stapleton has a way with humor and I was laughing consistently throughout the book. The characters could be a little more fleshed out, but this is just the first of three so hopefully more of that will happen in the sequels. Felicity is a great, relatable narrator and one that's fun to watch as she tries to fix all the problems that occur from her Cupid work.

I enjoyed the concept of modern-day cupids and how they would get people to fall in love with each other. The summary though is a bit misleading- the story is more realistic than fantasy and the situation with Maya is not all that dire. I thought the heart splitting in three was a consequence of doing more than one and it's not; in fact, Felicity's boss never catches on to what's happening and no magical backfiring occurs (maybe I'm thinking too much in terms of Sabrina the Teenage Witch spell-gone-awry plots). The plot is somewhat neatly wrapped up by the end, but I'm excited to see where it all goes next in the sequel, Flirting with Disaster.

I think I read this suggestion in another review, but I really agree with it. If you're a fan of the Simon Pulse Romantic Comedies, this is very similar to those, so pick up a copy if you want a fun, light read over the holidays!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally charming!, December 22, 2009
This review is from: Stupid Cupid (Paperback)
Stupid Cupid is about Felicity, who gets an afterschool job that's more than she bargained for. She's not working for a dating service- she's an actual cupid! And she sets her school into an uproar as she tries to make good matches- going so far as to load up her best friend with THREE matches at once. Hilarity ensues, all with a sweetness and heart that keep this book from slipping into darkness or cynicism. It's sunny, upbeat and so much fun to read. Totally recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Adorable!!, February 5, 2010
This review is from: Stupid Cupid (Paperback)
Felicity Walker takes a job at a matchmaking company because what teen wouldn't like a little extra cash? But, she's no ordinary employee. She's a cupid armed with the 21st century version of arrows - email!

Funny, impulsive and rule-bending, Felicity is a character that captured my heart. Disaster strikes on a regular basis and most of them result from her choices. STUPID CUPID delivers pages of laughs while never losing the innocence that accompanies true love.

Kudos to debut author Rhonda Stapleton for creating a light, fun series when so much of what's popular is heavier fare. I'd been looking for a romantic comedy and now I'm looking forward to reading the next - FLIRTING WITH DISASTER.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, light read, January 27, 2010
This review is from: Stupid Cupid (Paperback)
I liked this book because it had a fun premise and was hysterically funny. I also liked that it was set in Cleveland, Ohio, because I haven't read many books set there. It was a little too predictable, but there were so many great scenes. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a light beach read, abd I will definitely read the next book in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love is in the Air, April 22, 2010
This review is from: Stupid Cupid (Paperback)
It's spring. Love is in the air.
Cupid is busy.
Are you a hopeless romantic?
Do you love humor?
Then you have to read Stupid Cupid, the first book in a series by Rhonda Stapleton.

Felicity Walker is a hopeless romantic who believes in true love. She gets a job at Cupid's Hollow, a matchmaking company, where she discovers something very interesting about herself: She is a cupid. When she starts matching her friends and classmates at school with their perfect soulmates, she learns it's better to play by the rules, instead of making up your own.

I laughed, I sympathized, and I thorougly enjoyed reading Felicity's story.

Felicity needs a job, so when she sees an add for a matchmaking company called Cupid's Hollow, she thinks it might just be the perfect gig. Once hired she learns that not only is she now a matchmaker, she is now a cupid!

Felicity is givin a PDA, one that is magical, it sends emails instead of arrows, the latest cupid technology. But Felicity soon finds out that being a cupid isn't as easy as she thought it would be. She's made her first love match, two kids from school, and it seems to be going well.

Her best friend Maya is a great girl, but a little shy. So Felicity decides to match up Maya, but she wants to give Maya choices, so she matches her to 3 guys that Felicity thinks will be perfect for her. But, she learns quickly that there is a reason for the one match to each person rule. With Maya torn between the 3 guys, Felicity has to try to fix the problem, before something crazy happens to her friend, and before she loses her new job.

This is a really cute YA read that shows that love isn't always as predictible as we would like for it to be. I'm looking forward to the next read in this series, it will be fun to see what kind of trouble Felicity manages to get herself into this time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, February 27, 2010
This review is from: Stupid Cupid (Paperback)
Felicity scored a job - she's become a cupid. Cupid is no longer only for adults and there's a whole slew of them. With this new job, Felicity has the power to create love matches by sending blank emails to the couple with potential.

There are rules involved: each potential couple must have at least three points of common interest, you don't hook up more than one person with another, and above all you must learn from the matches that don't make it after the two-week trial period.

Felicity can't wait to test out her new powers. Instead of reading the manual, she's learning by trial and fire. The magic arrow email has two weeks to work and then wears off. If the couple stays together after that, the match works; if not, well, one can always try again.

Soon, she's juggling a couple who cares about the environment. She also sets up her best friend with three potential boyfriends and now has to run interference. Plus, she made matches between her arch-rival and a creep, as well as a smart girl with a wise-cracking guy. Will any of her matches survive?

STUPID CUPID is the start of a charming new trilogy filled with humor, disasters, friendship, and love that readers can't help but adore.
