This book does an amazing job of bringing to life the challenges parents face in today's fast paced world with real-life examples and stories. After reading this book, I feel so much better about myself as a parent. I know I was not alone in my parenting struggles and that I was not a bad parent. This book gives practical advice on parenting throughout the life span (childhood to adulthood). I highly recommend this. It's very positive and easy to read.

Exceptional. I gave a copy to my pediatrician to put in his lobby and he insisted on reading it first. He now recommends it to all of the parents of his patients. Bravo, Dr. Jaksa!

Peter Jaksa is a very tuned-in, sensitive, practical therapist who provides a well-organized, highly readable book for parents who are struggling to make sense of parenting issues and family issues in this complex, difficult social environment of the late twentieth century. Dr. Jaksa charts a course for parents that gives hope and direction.

Don't Raise your kids without Reading This,

This review is from: 25 Stupid Mistakes Parents Make (Roxbury Park Books) (Paperback)
Dr. Jaksa's book is crammed with practical, readable advise that makes sense. His chapters on power struggles, school problems and homework, sex and drugs, and strategies to prevent problems make this book a "classic." As a school psychologist, I would recommend this book to all parents to help them understand the importance of family traditions in a life fraught with pressure and media influences that may be powerful and damaging. I think this is a brilliant piece of work!

Peter Jaksa has written a book that, as a father of three young children, I found deeply comforting as well as helpful. Dr. Jaksa obviously loves his subject--parents, children, and families--and he pretends to nothing more than he delivers: solid, sensible advice mixed with humor, warmth, wisdom, and optimism. I am also a child psychiatrist, and from a professional standpoint, this book is also first rate. Read it, enjoy it, learn from it, and return to it when you need to.

A Definite "Must Read" for Parents and Adult Children Alike!,
By A Customer
This review is from: 25 Stupid Mistakes Parents Make (Roxbury Park Books) (Paperback)
Dr. Jaksa really hits the nail on the proverbial head with this book. No gimmicks, no games, just good, solid common sense-- which parents often overlook! An easy read, Jaksa spices up his advice with thought-provoking vignettes undoubtedly taken from his years of working with children, both as a psychologist and as a father. Anyone who has read John and Linda Friel's The 7 Worst Things Parents Do, will find that Dr. Jaksa utilizes much more down to earth and practical approaches to "parent-rearing." Bravo, Dr. Jaksa!!!

In his new book, Dr. Jaksa outlines practical ideas to help parents understand the importance of building a strong foundation for their children. He uses humor mixed with specifics to make such statements as, "An assertive parent is not a dictator, marshmallow or guilt monger," or "Don't expect the same things at different ages." This is a great gift for new and "evolving" parents alike!
