Book Description

September 1, 1999
Rise up, America -- and laugh out loud at the greatest

gaffes that no spin doctor could possibly fix!

The bestselling authors of "The 776 Stupidest Things Ever Said" have concocted the perfect antidote to today's political mayhem and bad behavior. The Stupidest Things Ever Said By Politicians is a nonpartisan hall of shame featuring the idiotic utterances, ridiculous slogans, mixed metaphors, and lame excuses that have fallen from the mouths of our fearless leaders around the world, and from the present and past (because stupidity knows no age).

Read their lips -- your eyes won't believe your ears!

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

The stupidest things ever said by politicians? Gosh, where would you start? But seriously, folks, world leaders say the darnedest things. Have you heard the one about Strom Thurmond, who told a bunch of women who came to testify before Congress, "These are the prettiest witnesses we've had in a long time. I imagine you all are married. If not, you could be if you wanted to be." Of course, with sexism there's often a thin line between stupidity and tactlessness. For sheer boneheaded dumbness, you sometimes have to move on to other subjects, like the time Dan Quayle spoke out on the environment: "It isn't pollution that's harming our environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it." That Dan Quayle, he's such a goof. "I believe we are on an irreversible trend towards more freedom and democracy," he said one time. "But that could change." Not that Democrats can't be slow on the uptake themselves. Like California senator Barbara Boxer, who said, "Those who survived the San Francisco earthquake said, 'Thank God, I'm still alive.' But, of course, those who died, their lives will never be the same again." And it's not just Americans who are stupid--how about the Canadian official who said, "If this thing starts to snowball, it will catch fire right across the country." Yep, those politicians, they sure are wacky.

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely hilarious, December 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Stupidest Things Ever Said by Politicians (Paperback)
This has to be the funniest book I've read in years! I literally couldn't stop laughing -- it's a stunning indictment of all politicians -- at least now I'm laughing at them! I thought the authors picked an excellent range of stupid quotes -- by mixing them all up every page had at least one or two gems on it -- and the collection as a whole was A++. I also loved the special sections where the authors skewer certain types of political behavior -- It makes me watch politcians on Sunday morning news shows with just a little more cynicism! All in all, I just loved this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Laughter in Both Aisles, December 18, 1999
This review is from: The Stupidest Things Ever Said by Politicians (Paperback)
A very good selection of quotes that had me laughing, chuckling and shaking my head. My college-age son responded to a couple of them with, "Nobody would ever say that!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!!, September 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Stupidest Things Ever Said by Politicians (Paperback)
The Petrases are known experts at collecting stupid words and deeds, but they have truly outdone themselves with this laugh-out-loud funny book. (They clearly had an enormous wealth of material to chose from.) It's a blast!
