This book is chock full of information that will answer any question about how to catch fish in Northwest waters. It's written in a format that's quick and to the point. Take the guess work out of what lure to use and learn how to use a boat's depth sounder as a tool for successful fishing. The book has so much useful information that it will improve the odds of catching fish for the beginner or the seasoned expert. Great book!!

If you own just one book on pursuing the West Coast's premier ocean and estuary fish species, make this the book. With sections specific to Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California, and with excellent illustrations and photos and a concise, too-the-point writing style, Wayne Heinz has given serious and novice anglers alike a resource that absolutely will help you put more fish in your boat. That he manages to do this in a slim, highly readable 108 pages rates as one of the great writing achievements in any kind of angling. Get this book even if you live on the East Coast and only dream about fishing the West Coast!

There are so many excellant tips on catching fish. This is the best "How To" book I have ever read. I recommend this book for any Library with an active fishing community.

How can a book be entertaining and light reading...........and still have lots of detailed information? Ask Wayne Heinz - he's done it! Great photos, great info on the use of modern day electronic tools to make "the Science of Fishing" understandable and usable for the typical angler. The data on down-rigger fishing is great and really helpful to us "newbies" who have always been just moochers and jiggers. Take it with you in the boat - the detailed index allows you to quickly look up a
question and get the answer!

Why have I spent so much money on chartered trips to learn how to fish? Oh yeah, it was because this book hadn't been published yet! Now all the secrets of the pros are condensed into one concise, well-written package.

Wayne Heinz has crafted a book of tremendous value to both newbie and experienced fisherman in the Northwest. If you want to catch more fish and bigger fish in saltwater in the Northwest, this book is a must-have. Whether your species of choice is halibut, lingcod, rockfish or (my favorite) salmon, the tips and techniques in this book will help make you a better fisherman.

In fishing, the devil is definitely in the details, and what sets this book apart is Heinz's tremendous attention to detail. It's been said that 10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish. Heinz is definitely a "10 per center" and shares with the reader the in-depth secrets to his success.

Heinz's style is easy to read and easy to understand, and the photos and illustrations are top-notch. I take this book in the boat with me and it's almost like having Wayne Heinz there with me, coaching me in person on how to catch more fish. And it WORKS!

My bottom line: every angler should own 2 copies of this book: one for his boat and one for reference at home. The tips and techniques in this book, while geared toward the Pacific Northwest angler, are well worth the price of the book for anyone who fishes anywhere.
