The creamy wood is hard enough for satisfying scratching yet not so hard as to splinter and stick in the cats paws. The red heart and knot wood is very fragrant and the reason eastern red cedar is also known as aromatic red cedar.

The product itself is great. The wood is of high quality and is worth the money. However, neither one of my cats showed any interest in it at all, even after covering it in cat nip. The website stated that cats are attracted to the scent of red cedar. Well on of my cats walked up to it, smelled, and made her stinky face at it and walked away. Shortly after I purchased a different post from purrfect posts, made of wood with a soft woven sisal on it. It was equally as expensive, but comes with a 60 day money back guarantee. Both of my cats have already started scratching this post after having it for less time than the red cedar post. Needless to say I am returning the red cedar post.
