Keeps the dirt in place,

This review is from: New Style Ridgid VF6000 Filter with 5 Layer HEPA Material (Kitchen)
I've used the Rigid 5.5hp vacum for 5 years now, with the standard filter. About a year ago I got the VF5000 filter, which was a big improvement, but the step up to VF6000 is even bigger, keeping dust from dry walling etc in place. It does seem to clog up faster though.

I was able to sand the antifouling paint off the bottom of my boat down to the gelcoat without putting a cloud of poisonous dust in the air. A neighboring boat owner in the yard actually thanked me.
The filter does fill up (clog) fairly quickly. I suppose that is the price you pay for the high filtration.

The description of this filter on Amazon, when I placed my order was, "HEPA Rated Filter Incorporating Microban Built IN Protection". The package I received says nothing about the Microban protection and there isn't a HEPA rating seal, it just says, ""Made with HEPA material". It also states that it's not appropriate for EPA's Lead Paint RRP rule.
I emailed Emerson/Rigid inquiring about the above and they wrote back, "The material of the VF6000 RIDGID filter is HEPA rated, however, the complete filter assembly system is not individually certified to HEPA standards. Therefore, none of our vacs that use the VF6000 can be used for lead paint pickup." They said I'd have to get a different model vac and filter in order to have true HEPA filtration. I emailed Amazon about the problem and of course, they'll take back anything a customer is unhappy with, but since it's made by a third party, they couldn't provide the certification. The filter seems to do a good job of when using it in a dusty situation and there is no dust or debris that I can see being emitted. Without some type of measurement device, it's impossible for me to tell if there are small particles that I can't see. So I'm going to keep the filter and use it, mostly because there doesn't seem to be a better one that is HEPA certified made for my Ridgid WD1450 14-Gallon 6-Horsepower Wet/Dry Vacuum. I just wish that the information they gave in the description would have been more accurate.

Works very well... but will clog faster... so be alert to that issue.
But if you need to clean drywall dust or other fine dust inside the home this is what you want to use. Took off one star for price... even though the price here is the same as anywhere. The prices are just too high for such a simple part.

I have a house in the country where we are susceptible to dust, debris and pollen finding it's way into our home. I have always used a shopvac and was thrilled to find out that Rigid came out with a filter that can catch all those microscopic particles. Amazon beat out all the local stores in pricing. Love this filter!

If you have ever dealt with drywall dust, you know what a pain it can be.I used this "HEPA" material filter in place of the standard and I could see a world of difference. PROS: I will filter fine dust a lot better. I could not perceive sizeable dust emissions. CONS: Filter will clog sooner than the standard one. Sometimes, you can simply remove it, pull the clumps out, bang it a bit to loosen and release the dust, reinstall and keep it moving. These babies are pricey, $30 a pop. But worth it to me.

I purchased this for my rigid shop vac after installing laminate flooring in my house. My shop vac has become my main vac with this filter. Seals tight and prevents blow through of anything . Easy to clean, just remove and tap on something solid out in the yard, well made should last a long time.

I used this in a non-typical application for a DIY project. In case you are doing the same the large opening on one end measures at 4" inches diameter exactly. The other side has a hole 3/4" for the typical mounting screw to go through, which I covered for my purposes. This is a great filter with minimal static pressure required to draw air through it.
