5.0 out of 5 stars Real and practical advice for real people with real bodies
Wow! I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would! If nothing else, the chapter on big calves made it a worthwhile purchase. While I'm slender all over, I inherited my mother's very large calves and hefty ankles.

Wow! I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would! If nothing else, the chapter on big calves made it a worthwhile purchase. While I'm slender all over, I inherited my mother's very large calves and hefty ankles.

In addition to good, practical advice using photos of women who look like "real" people, not models or emaciated, moisturized skeletons, the author is very body positive. You are never made to feel bad about any body part, rather you are well educated on how to look your very best-which in turn will make you feel your best. All in all, a great feedback loop.

I recommend this book to any woman of any age and body type. I read all the chapters and really got a lot out of every page. The book is worth every penny, much more so than "How Not To Look Old..."

Now, if only I lived in NYC and could have a personal consultation with the author...

5.0 out of 5 stars THE ONLY STYLE PRESCRIPTION YOU WILL EVER NEED!!, January 2, 2008
Finally, someone wrote a book that every woman can relate to. I was so tired of picking up books that taught me how to dress my body, but were full of text and drawings that I couldn't relate to. The author doesn't tell you how to do it, she SHOWS you. It is about time that someone represented real women in a way that is not only empowering, but celebrates how diverse we are. Wait until Oprah gets her hands on this book! Bridgette Raes is definitely putting a refreshing perspective on how we view our bodies. This book reminds me of the awesome DOVE `real women, real beauty' campaign.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Book You Need for Dressing Your Body!!!!!!!!, January 2, 2008
By
WOW! Throw out your other 'dress your body' books because this is the only one you will ever need!!! What's great about STYLE Rx is the amount of photography of real women with REAL bodies! For the first time ever, I was able to relate to the models in the photographs. The advice was incredibly simple and easy to apply. Bridgette Raes knows what she is doing and I appreciate that she not only speaks from experience, but has built a business helping women (like you and me) transform thier wardrobe and style. Her writing is lighthearted (she is hysterical) and approachable, while at the same time being extremely knowledgeable. I will definitely be able to create the body I want with the body I have with the help of Style Rx! Thank you Bridgette for showing us all how to embrace and dress our bodies in an empowering manner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Life Style, March 10, 2008

Big butt? Little butt? Short legs? Long waist? You, yes, YOU can find the solutions to your style problems. And they're all right here, in one volume.

There are many books on the market that offer advise on what to wear/what not to wear in order to camouflage one or more body "flaws". This book is head and shoulders above the rest. What sets this compendium apart is that each figure challenge is given its own chapter, thoroughly illustrated with before and after photos, and filled with pointers and tips for visually altering your appearance.

But wait, there's more! Ms. Raes includes a section of case studies, so you can see how to put all the advice to good use. This section is especially helpful for those who may feel overwhelmed by too much information.

My favorite part of the book, however, is the section on Balance and Harmony. Here you'll find information that is rarely discussed in other style books, or discussed in a way that is too complicated to put to use. Topics include necklines, movement, texture, and intensity. The photos illustrate these topics with clarity, so that anyone can easily understand and implement the ideas. The photos also show just how much of a difference just a slight change can make in one's appearance.

So, if you are looking for the one-stop-shop for figure enhancement wisdom, look no more. Style Rx will fix what ails you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for ALL Women, January 7, 2008
By
In 2005 my wardrobe was a jumble - full of clothes yet I had "nothing to wear." I was dissatisfied with how I dressed and how I looked. I needed help. I found Bridgette Raes here in NYC and hired her as a personal style consultant. Each consulting dollars I paid Bridgette Raes was money well spent. The most valuable lesson I learned from Bridgette was how to dress my body. The reality is we are all built differently and not all clothing styles look good on all women. She fully understands women 's struggles finding clothes that "fit right" and "look good". I can personally testify that her advice helps -- and so can my friends, a number of whom became clients, too. No matter what size, shape or age you are, Bridgette's book is invaluable. The book sums it all up and helps deal with problem areas -- instead of hiding from them! Bridgette Raes empowered me. This book will empower you!

4.0 out of 5 stars You look marvelous!, January 7, 2008
Heard about this book from my sister and after scouring two bookstores (they were sold out...ladies, you move quick!), I finally snagged a copy. Thank you Bridgette Raes for finally giving women the knowledge of what works and doesn't work....after all, we do come in many shapes and sizes. Learning how to make our flaws work for us as opposed to against us was refreshing. Thanks again, Bridgette.

This book had good information on dressing to look your best. The author was on target with body flaws and their remedies...the book was very aptly named. I liked the way that her book was organized. She points the reader in the right direction to visually correct figure flaws.

Three things that would have given this five stars. First, color photos. You have to use your imagination when looking through the section on color and pattern intensity because black and white photos just don't do it justice. Second, thicker pages. I could read the print on the next page without actually turning. Third, some of the before pictures of these women actually looked better than the after. Particularly, I found this true toward the end of the book when all of the models were in white t-shirts and jeans in their "before" pic. Many of them (though certainly not all) looked classier in the jeans than the final outfits that were supposedly correcting figure flaws!!! Personally, I like a classy look, and the author sometimes clothed the models in more trendy, less-than-appealing clothing.

All in all, my daughter and I both enjoyed this read, laughing together at some of the author's humorous views.

4.0 out of 5 stars The title says it all!, February 18, 2008
I was hoping for a book that addressed building a basic wardrobe as well as dressing to fit your body "flaws". Instead this book did exactly what it said it would -- it gives you advice on how to dress to mask your body "flaws". It is very good if that's all you want this book for, but don't expect anything else out of it.
