good tutorials but few tutoriales,
By
This review is from: Style School Volume 1 (Paperback)
Its a good book in general. It has a good print quality and the tutorials, tips are good. But it only has 40 pages of tutoriales over 150 pages more or less. The rest of the book are illustrations from readers. I think the images of tutoriales are a little small.Perhaps, the tutorials are too varied... I suppose people want to learn about photoshop o inkinkg more than watercolors...

This Book is FREAKING AWESOME! The frist time I pick up this book. I had artist over load. I mean this book is really freaking amazing. The first 44 pgs. are all on different types of Style using color. and how to do them in full detail. It also has 50 page of pure Illustrations.Plus, on top of that. there's section on black and white styles in the back. This book, is a how to draw and Ilustration book in one. trust me, save ten dollars.and buy this BOOK. It's wroth it. seven times over. with the information inside.

This isn't really a "book," it's a high-quality quarterly magazine. I am so impressed with the tutorials! If you like dabbling in traditional mediums, this is the book for you! I've been inspired to try new things and I love the results I'm getting!! I don't think this is a beginner book though since the tutorials don't hold your hand all the way through. You have to have some idea how the paints/inks/markers/programs already work to an extent--Style School just gives you the nudge to try something new with it.If you want to take your artwork to the next level, by all means, this is a great investment!

I ordered this book along with a few others and this is the one I keep going back to. From the moment I took it from its' packaging I was hooked. It is bound on the left and therefore reads right-to-left which just makes me feel special for owning it. The techniques described within are pretty scattered and some are advanced. I am a rather new artist, or actually, I used to be an artist, then I wasn't for 15 years, now I am doing it again. I never considered myself particularly advanced, however, if you have the type of mind that can adapt things to your own you may find this book just as helpful as I did.I didn't read through it's pages attempting to copy the technique or even try to apply the instruction into my regular daily works. What I did was read through some of the traditional pen/paper coloring methods and try to translate the principles into what I was doing digitally. Overall I saw progress, it opened me up to a few things. I would recommend it, but if you are looking for something that shows proportional figure drawing tutorials or even drawing tutorials in general then you may want to pick up something else to go along with this.

this is a nice artbook that gathers lots of different work from many artists worldwide, and even shows you how some of the artists create their work. Great insight and applicable knowledge for artists. Very easy to recommend to anyone interested creating artwork in the Manga/Anime style, or to anyone thats just a fan of the style in general.

Style School is a book full of manga style art, a lot of it submitted by regular people. It has some tutorials on using different mediums, like ink, photoshop, etc. I would have to say that if you're looking for a step-by-step book then this is not it, get the How to Draw Manga. However this is good for inspiration and to get an idea of the different styles of drawing, be warned there are some ecchi images, but not really graphic like the Robot series.

While I will agree that this book is beautifully illustrated, I will say that I wish I had read all of the reviews for this particular book. This book does contain "ecchi", which is the Japanese way of saying, "lewd", "naughty", and can also mean "pornographic". This was to be a gift for my young daughter as she loves to draw anime. Unfortunately, I have to return this book and look for something more age appropriate. I do appreciate the arts, have taken college art classes and do understand the "anatomy" aspect of drawing...however, ecchi, in my opinion, does not fall into that catagory.
