This is a terrible product. First of all it punches a large hole in the clothing. I tried this on two shirts and both had to be thrown out because the hole got too big. Then the worst part is that the "jewels" just snap on the front and sit about 1/4" above the clothing. It is nothing like it looks like on the box. If you are thinking it will be like the Bedazzler from the 80s then you will be really disappointed. My daughter who is 8 did finish one shirt. She said the "jewels" looked really bad and said she would never want to wear that shirt. I don't blame her. The Gem Decorator did not even work except to poke a large hole. I had to snap the 2 pieces in myself and then snap the "gem" on the front. I can only imagine that the "gems" would come off in the washing machine. Save your money. My daughter received this as a gift. We tried using the applicator to install the 'gems' on a shirt and quit after trying to apply only two bases. The product kept making additional holes in the shirt even thought we were not using the hole punch. It ruined the shirt. We are returning it and will look for something else. My daughter was very disappointed. Do not waste your money or chance disappointing another child.

SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT! We purchased this for our 10 year-old daughter for Christmas. She could not wait to try it! I couldn't either, to be honest - I was thinking along the lines of the "Rhinestone and Stud Setter" from the 70's or the "Bedazzler" for the 80's/90's. WRONG! First, the "setter" is cheap and flimsy - can't imagine it lasting long, even if my daughter DID want to continue using. Second - as stated before, if you have to start by putting a good-sized hole in your garment! And the more you mess with it, the larger the hole becomes. We have already ruined one shirt. The "gems" sit in a rather bulky setting, which causes them to be raised about 1/4" off the garment - and there is no way these would last past one washing.

Style Six should be ashamed of themselves - definitely false advertising!!

Maybe next year, I'll find an old-fashioned "bedazzler" and do this the right way!

Did not work at all. Left huge hole in the shirt and the gem wouldn't even stick on. HUGE disappointment, left my daughter in tears.

Horrible - looks nothing like the picture on the box. The gems sit up about 1/4" and you can see the holders. The punch made the holes way to big and three fell out when I washed the shirt. Also when pushing down on the lever to attach gem she kept accidently punching more holes in the shirt.

I wish I had looked up the reviews for this product before buying it!!! I bought it on an impulse in the store thinking it would be a great gift for my 6 year old daughter. She was really excited to try it and it was such a let down. The other reviews are correct! All this does is poke holes into the shirt and you have to snap the gem on yourself! It also does attach a snap for the gem but you have to somehow avoid punching a hole in other parts of the shirt while you do that. It was IMPOSSIBLE for my daughter to use and press the snaps into place. It was hard for me to snap so my husband had to do it for us. My daughter was upset that she couldn't play with it. This toy is NOT EASY TO USE. Once my husband finished putting a few jewels on the shirt for us,(which took a long time) we realized that the jewels stay in that gaudy looking gray plastic. Even my daughter didn't think that was right because it doesn't show that on the box. The base also kept falling off the applicator while trying to use it. I also agree that the gems could be a choking hazard since they do not look like they will stay on.
She put the shirt on and the plastic snaps and retainers on the inside of the shirt scratch her skin. I could go on about this terrible product...but I won't waste any more time. I just wanted to warn parents. Don't waste your money on this toy! Style Six should be ashamed for false advertising. Since you have to tear thru so much plastic to get to every little part, there is no way to return this terrible toy for a refund after you open it. They should offer to refund or replace with a different product.

I bought this for my twin daughters and they were super excited. We used it today and it didn't work the way it was suppose to and we had to do a "work-around" to even get the gem retainers to stay without it poking another (unwanted) hole in the fabric. The "gems" are attached by a completely unattractive gray plastic clip (and this is not what is pictured on the front of the box). The girls have been finished with their creations for about an hour now and the "gems" keep popping off the shirt and have to be reapplied. This is a choking hazard if there are toddlers in your home.

The only positive is that the girls did have fun doing it. However, because it required a "work-around" it would have been impossible for them to do it independently.

Save your money!

This was given to my almost 10 year old daughter as a birthday gift. When we attempted to use it it punched holes through the garment in places where we didn't want them, the gems easily broke, and when on the shirt there is a large, gray, plastic ring that sits around the gem, unlike what the image on the front of the box claims. This product says it is for children 8 and up. But I had to do the whole thing myself. There was no way for her to contribute what so ever. In general this is a terrible product that is extremely disappointing.

Terrible toy - I agree with all the other reviews about this gem decorator. I am amazed that in today's world the makers can get away with advertising the product in a manner which is completely different from the overall result you are suppose to achieve with what is supplied.. A horrible grey plastic clip is left on the garment which makes the gem sit high off of it and is nothing at all like shown on the box. Rubbish and where the makers are left with our money, we the parents are left with disappointed children and a feeling of being duped.. Don't buy!!

The manufacturer of this product - Jakks Pacific uses deceptive marketing to sell this product. My 9yo daughter got this as a gift and on the box there are pictures of a couple shirts with gemstones on them. Only after using it do you realize that what you end up with is not what is pictured. On the product pictured, the gemstones stay without any attachment device visible - as if they had been glued on - all you see is the pretty gemstone on the shirt. In reality, you end up with gemstones that have a cheap grey plastic holder around it that makes it protrude from the shirt about 1/2 inch.

That means this company knowingly went out of their way to make a shirt without using their own product and used that to sell a product to you that they themselves wouldn't use. It's one thing to make a bad product, it's an entirely different thing to intentionally deceive people. For this reason I would never recommend any Jakks Pacific products.
