I first became aware of Christine Anu through RENT when she played Mimi in the Australian cast of RENT. Here she doesn't disappoint by turing in a richly textured CD full of soul, funk, and wonderfully simple yet beautiful lyrics. "Island Home" is a great example of the type of song this artist turns out. Anu has a silky voice that moves over many delicate notes and raises some of the tunes to powerful heights. "Wanem Time" really gets you going and I like to listen to it right away in the morning. Bu this CD, it only makes it more clear that foreign artists really turn out proudct with quality that you don't find in the US. It is pure, unconventialized music that make "stylin'" listening.

A wonderfully honest mix of eclectic electric, spunky funk, rap riff, and mystic chant in rich rhythms, subtle overlays, and compelling beats; a beautiful blend of contemporary and traditional, rock and romance, epic and folk. Displaced island sprite, Christine Anu, pours an ocean of heart into the listener's soul. Exceedingly original, exceptionally danceable. Christine & Co., please send more!

Christine Anu has broken through typical pop music by integrating an island sound and funky lyrics to a fantastic voice. Production is excellent and her ability to take you to different moods is beyond reproach in her genre. Highly recommended! Christine - we want more!

As Rod Stewart once said, some guys get all the luck. If Christine Anu had been born in America, with her looks and talent, she'd probably live in Silverlake, hang out with the stars, and have her life documented by the National Inquirer. As it is, she makes the cover of the Australian issue of Vogue, and gigs in Parramatta. Such is life. C'est la vie.Christine Anu is a performer of aboriginal ancestry from Thursday Island (TI) who bears striking resemblance to 400m star Cathy Freeman (with whom she apparently occasionally hangs. Actually, come to think of it, being Australian and hanging with Cathy Freeman probably beats being American and hanging with, say Charlie Sheen, but that's another story). Anyway, the disk is pretty generic international pop. There are some tracks based on aboriginal music, some use of found sounds and samples, and some aboriginal themes in the lyrics, but at the end of the day, this is a pop record. And a pretty good one. Her new record is supposed to be even more pop oriented.

This CD is absolutely awesome,

but the reason for this review, is that I just have to address the comment below that Christine Anu looks like Cathy Freeman. They look nothing alike! Cathy Freeman is cute but Christine Anu is stunning. Also Christine Anu is of Torres Strait Islander origin, whereas Cathy Freeman is Aboriginal - they are ethnically distinct. Just because they are both Black and indigenous does not mean they must physically resemble each other. That is just ignorant.
