Typical Haynes fair. For basic maintenance, this will help you get the job done. Don't expect this to be a factory manual.

This book is identical in content (word for word) to the Chilton manual. Their layout is slightly different. Buy one, but not both. Chilton seems to have larger diagrams, Haynes has more efficient print layout. Take your pick.

Despite RnB's negative review of this manual, I went ahead and got one and it's fine for what I need. It's up to Haynes normal standard, i.e. some good clear parts, some confusing ones, some good photos and some unclear ones, but there is enough in here to get most jobs done without too much pain. I have used it to work on the cooling system successfully.

By the way, there are 2 pages on spark plug replacement, with photos, and the cabin air filter replacement is covered in the Subaru owners manual, so don't be put off. Subaru's are pretty bullet proof so you shouldn't need this too much, but it's always good to have a manual like this on the workshop shelf.

This manual is identical to the Chilton, word for word. Buy whichever is cheapest. I didn't know this beforehand and now have both sitting on my bookshelf.

Anyway, it's ok for a basic manual, but one of the first jobs I needed it for was a rear wheel bearing. They basically state that the job is too hard for you, so pull the housing off the car and bring it to a machine shop to have the bearing pressed in. I ended up finding instructions online and was able to complete it myself that way.

Basically, I'd say treat it as a quick reference, but don't expect a fully comprehensive, "bumper to bumper" service manual.

Typical Haynes manual. Good for small jobs, not very detailed for in depth troubleshooting. I used the book to do a timing belt on a 2004 Forester and had no problems. If the car belonged to me I would have bought the factory service manual, but since I was working on someone elses car this one did just fine.

The guide has served me well for performing routine maintenance and basic repairs on my 2002 Outback Wagon. Gave it a four because the photographs could be better and some graphics could be added.

Good book and it served it's purpose. I needed to do a brake job on my 2003 Subaru Lagacy wagon and it served it's purpose. It is a little low on details but I completed the job and the car stops. What more can you ask for.

Thanks Amazon for having the Chilton Subaru Outback 2000-06 manual available. I have saved BIG BUCKS by not having to go to the dealer for most services. Their overhead charges and fees are rediculous....and they don't vacuum the car either
This manual is illustrated and guides one through the process to do many maintenace tasks for much less money. Thanks again.

I ordered the book because just the car.. i needed to do some inediate repairs and had to wait about 2weeks for shipping.. other wise excellent price.

This is a pretty decent service manual. It doesn't always have the level of detail that I'd like to see, and it doesn't always match up exactly with my car (some of the photos and diagrams are "representative pictorials", but overall it's pretty good.

It covers a lot more advanced procedures than I'll ever do (like I'm never going to remove my cylinder heads at home), but covers all of the basic maintenance too.

Was shipped fast from seller. Amazon has the best deal on Haynes manuals. I have ordered several of these manuals from Amazon. They are much cheaper than the parts stores.
