5.0 out of 5 stars Bangin mix, May 4, 2006
By

I had kind of gotten away from the harder trance style over the past few years favoring the more mellow melodic progressive trance and house. I had seen CL a few times many years ago and his live sets were always good. I though this cd would be a little too hard for my current tastes, but it is not. It is hard for sure, but a very good mix. I would say the only very minor drawback to this mix is that there really aren't the very amazing builds that Chris is known for during his live sets. However, it is still a very bangin mix cd and as the previous reviewer said, a great journey. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Octane Trance Mix, May 19, 2006

You've gotta hand it to Christopher Lawrence... While most big name Trance DJs have moved towards boring Progressive House and minimal bleepy Electro, Christopher has stuck to his guns.

Turning out high energy peak hour Trance tunes perfectly mixed, Christopher has kept many a dancefloor rocking. SUBCULTURE is a perfect example of Christopher Lawrence live and a must-have for true fans of big room Trance.

5.0 out of 5 stars the wait is finally over for djcl's new mix, May 6, 2006

listening to Christopher Lawrence's new mix "Subculture", i couldn't help reflecting upon the current state of dance and trance music mix cd's. while there are still some great mixes coming out of the dance community at large, so many of the great trance dj's i like to see live put out very dissapointing mix cd's. Mister Lawrence's is not one of these. DJCL's "Subculture" mix from the opening track by Wrecked Machines featuring Brain XL to the closing track "Understand" is highly representative of his live sets and that for me is a huge selling point. I absoulutely loved the power and the purity of this outstanding mix that rushes by in its 70 minutes of pure bliss. Four years betweeen mix cd's is a long time to wait, but i'm beginning to forgive DJ Lawrence as i'm listening to this stellar set of tracks from all over the globe mixed to perfection for the 5th time in as many days. Peace!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Trance Cd of The Year, September 14, 2007

This is the best trance album of the 2007. When I play this cd for ravers, random chicks who dont like trance, upper class club socialites, and people who are true connoiseurs of electronic music, all are blown away. This cd captures the essence of the upbeat party trance music we've all had a sense of, never found, and been looking for for a long time. A trance album for the club, for the car, and for just sitting at home alone. Very uplifting music. Not a single bad track on the cd. Maybe the best trance cd since out there and back by van dyk or before the storm by darude. I know thats a bold statement, but this cd is AMAZING.

P.S. CL is amazing live, if hes within a hundred miles of you, its a crime to miss

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best new Trance cd out there right now., August 16, 2006
This review is from: Subculture (Audio CD)
Good stuff. I think Chirstopher Lawrence is great to see but sometimes the albums cant match the intensity of his live work. This album is so much different. It is well produced and the songs mesh very nicely from start to finish. If i had to pick just one song on the album that i thought stood out (ok i replay it the most) it has to be 3d Time Lucky. But the album as a whole is just wonderful to listen too. Gets me really in the mood for going out or just fills the need for some great dance tunes. I cant wait till he comes back to PHX.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best PureTrance mix I have heard in '06 so far...., August 15, 2006

....there are still a few more months to go though , and there seem to be an awful lot out there ...alot of them by big names. I didn't care for this guys earlier stuff , but he really brings it with his latest. It starts off bangin' and never really slows down other than to fool you....1st track is pure banging melodic trance. 2nd track seems abit repetitive at first , but slows then changes and takes the listener on a darker , harder turn. Track 3 was more hard stuff , but IMO was the weakest track in the set. Track 4 has lots of good hypnotic beats which take you on an aural journey. Track 5 has a trippy high nrg vibe. Track 6 is hooked in beautifully with the best mixing skill displayed on the set IMO. Track 7 puts the brakes on the set abit , then gets real danceable again. Track 8 starts out with an odd industrial vibe , then morphs into an acid house style tune...pretty cool ++ and one of the better tracks IMO. Track 9 keeps bringing it with a pulsating rhythem. track 10 has an intro that will make you grind your molars , all the while keeping up the torrid pace of the set. The rest is pretty much the same with track 12 providing a real spacey feel to the set. If you like hard driving trance , this is a MUST buy for you.
