great white soul,
By A Customer
This review is from: Subdudes (Audio CD)
I watched the Subdudes go from a local Louisiana/Colorado phenomena, to record contract and now to relative obscurity. These guys don't deserve that. I love these guys. I've seen them dozens of times in Denver and a few times in New Orleans. To me, they had everything that a serious rock music fan could want; good songs, great soulful singing and tight musicianship and harmonies. And it doesn't hurt that they have a wonderful New Orleans style. They have without doubt the best tambourine player on the planet! They have broken up and I suspect the tough music climate is part of that reason. Think what you want about what you think people with record contracts earn, but fact of the matter is that sales and touring go hand in hand with ever increasing costs and unless you are selling millions of units, its hard. Given the putrid state of radio, and the influence of the suits and ties at the major labels, it is going to get harder and harder for real music to find a way to be heard. If you like Limp Biskit or Cannibal Corpse, what the hell are you doing reading this, ... get out of here. If you remember when music meant song writing, good playing and dancing, and you don't know the subdudes, pick this up for starters, you won't be dissapointed.

rare find,
By William R. Wichert (Hammond, IN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Subdudes (Audio CD)
The following statement is true for all of the Subdudes performances. Rock, country, blues, bluegrass, gospel, and even zydeco all wrapped up in soulful voices, harmonies, skilled musicianship, careful songwriting, integrity, and most of all...love. I have all of their CDs and I've seen them live. If only the music industry showed them the respect that their fans know they deserve.

Heaven,
By Toney (Missouri/formerly Baton Rouge, LA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Subdudes (Audio CD)
Of all the CD's I own, this one gets by far the most play. In fact I'm on my second copy. It's most definitely deserted island material. There is so much happening on this album on so many levels. Unbelievable percussion! The arrangements are second to none. This album represents what is great about New Orleans music. It is "Jazzfest" rolled up on one CD.
