5.0 out of 5 stars great white soul October 16, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I watched the Subdudes go from a local Louisiana/Colorado phenomena, to record contract and now to relative obscurity. These guys don't deserve that. I love these guys. I've seen them dozens of times in Denver and a few times in New Orleans. To me, they had everything that a serious rock music fan could want; good songs, great soulful singing and tight musicianship and harmonies. And it doesn't hurt that they have a wonderful New Orleans style. They have without doubt the best tambourine player on the planet! They have broken up and I suspect the tough music climate is part of that reason. Think what you want about what you think people with record contracts earn, but fact of the matter is that sales and touring go hand in hand with ever increasing costs and unless you are selling millions of units, its hard. Given the putrid state of radio, and the influence of the suits and ties at the major labels, it is going to get harder and harder for real music to find a way to be heard. If you like Limp Biskit or Cannibal Corpse, what the hell are you doing reading this, ... get out of here. If you remember when music meant song writing, good playing and dancing, and you don't know the subdudes, pick this up for starters, you won't be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars rare find March 24, 2003
Format:Audio CD
The following statement is true for all of the Subdudes performances.
Rock, country, blues, bluegrass, gospel, and even zydeco all wrapped up in soulful voices, harmonies, skilled musicianship, careful songwriting, integrity, and most of
I have all of their CDs and I've seen them live. If only the music industry showed them the respect that their fans know they deserve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heaven July 16, 2001
By Toney
Format:Audio CD
Of all the CD's I own, this one gets by far the most play. In fact I'm on my second copy. It's most definitely deserted island material.
There is so much happening on this album on so many levels. Unbelievable percussion! The arrangements are second to none.
This album represents what is great about New Orleans music. It is "Jazzfest" rolled up on one CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome soulful southern rock with touch 'o Cajun November 4, 1999
Format:Audio CD
Why is this band not better known? They are an immensely enjoyable listen - finely crafted tunes, diverse and imaginative instrumentation (normal mix plus accordion, mandolin, tambourine, occasional xylophone, tuba, even kazoo!), engaging and supple rhythms - these guys are good and yet very few have ever heard of 'em. Trust me - if you think you might like say, a southern Fleetwood Mac, then buy this album! With a 500+ cd collection, this is one I still go back and play again and again. IMO, this one is their best, then Annunciation and Lucky. Thank me later ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars You found it! December 20, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The first time is always the best! Once you hear this you'll be sad that these guys broke up. The most innovative track is Earl King's "Big Chief!" To get you in the Mardi Gras spirit know matter what time of year it is. This is a CD that'll never get a scratch on it because it won't come out of your CD player...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome band! January 26, 2000
Format:Audio CD
I first fell in love with this band when they were just getting started in the Denver area playing the bars and clubs. What a unique sound! This was the first of their albums I purchased and have bought everything since. I just cannot understand why none of the radio stations have heard of them or given them any airplay. If anyone ever gets the chance to see them live, don't miss it. I have seen them at least 2 dozen times and love them as much now as ever. This album definately worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection February 28, 2008
Format:Audio CD
Back in 1989, I went into the record store. There was a rack of CD's that were cheap and had a money back guarantee. This CD caught my eye, mainly because there were bongos and an accordian on the cover and I thought the name of the band was very cool. My style of music has always been eclectic and this might fit, I thought to myself. Anyway, if it's crap, I could always bring it back for a full refund. That's when I became a Subdudes fan for life. I own everything they've put out, even the solo projects and was heartbroken when they disbanded up for a while.
This is where it started my friends. You won't regret it!

3.0 out of 5 stars but some great tunes and a must-have for real fans
Not the same Subdudes edge as Behind the Levee (personal favorite). Smoother and more mellow, but some great tunes and a must-have for real fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why did they miss stardom?
The subdudes were a fresh sound that cut through the ordinary.

Top-rate musicianship with roots in "The Big Easy, Nawlins',Cresent City, NOLA."

This is the Subdudes CD that put them on the map, and it still sounds brilliant after all these years.
