Solid technical metal, December 23, 2004

Decent technical thrash/death metal. With a name like theirs, I was expecting supremely eclectic technical metal along the lines of Atheist or Alchemist (I guess the "-ist" at the end of their name fooled me). They didn't live up to my expectations, and at first I was very disappointed. The music, although intricate and well played, is fairly mainstream melodic metal-- more technical than most, but nothing too experimental or diverse. Once I got over my disappointment, though, I began to enjoy it. It is very well composed and thought out, and everything flows together well. Although it stays pretty squarely within the metal boundaries, some jazz influences make an appearance here and there. These guys are obviously talented, and although I find myself wishing they would push themselves a little more, there's really nothing to complain about on this album. Anyone interested in melodic metal (particularly technical bands like Capharnaum, Martyr, and Sceptic) is sure to love this.
