Editorial Reviews

Bernard Von Islaker– Side-Line Magazine #39

"...Synth-pop with EBM touches. Catchy synth-pop tunes. A band that every synth-pop follower should have checked out!"

Product Description

The debut release from this catchy Electronic Synth-Pop band with strong Industrial influences, EBM dance beats and soothing vocals (that have been compared to the likes of Morrissey, Chris Isaak and Neil Tennant). Melodic, yet driven with hints of Industrial bass, Techno sounds, and Trip Hop tendencies. "Sublimation" has been dubbed "intelligent and infectiously catchy well-crafted songs" where "harsh sounds are nicely incorporated into the electro pop world of Null Device." 14 tracks of pure electro bliss that even includes "There is a Light" cover by The Smiths." A must have for fans of Depeche Mode, Wolfsheim, Pet Shop Boys, Iris, and B! Machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Geek Musique, July 30, 2002
This review is from: Sublimation (Audio CD)
This is definitely one of my favorite releases of the year already! It stole my attention right away for its sheer sythpoppy brilliance. This is as good as it gets, synthpopwise --- elegant, heartfelt, melodic, and danceable. "Call of the Rose" and "Sacre Coeur" have their yearning New Order and Depeche Mode moments, and get past them. Look no further for well-crafted electronic pop music! Null Device has a fine music sensibility, and an ear for infectious beats and heart-catching melodic hooks. I've about worn my copy out already and will have to obtain another; its been on such constant rotation in my CD player. My favorite tracks on this release are the slightly ambiently-industrial "Neverland", the wonderful "The Sad Truth", and ND's brilliant cover of the Smith's "There's a Light That Never Goes Out". Not to be missed by any fan of synthpop, Depeche Mode or the Pet Shop Boys!

5.0 out of 5 stars WHY weren't these guys signed years ago?!?, July 23, 2002
This review is from: Sublimation (Audio CD)
This album is amazing. I heard their stuff on mp3.com years ago, plus the occassional clubplay, but this is above and beyond what I was expecting. Not holding to one genre by incorporating elements of trip-hop, drum n' bass and even 2-step, yet all kept technically under the "synthpop" banner, Null Device makes you think there's hope for the genre again. Tracks like "Footfalls," "The Sad Truth" and "Word & Deed" make the dancefloor move while "How" and the heartbreaking "If Only For Awhile" are shoegazer synth at it's best, tipping the hat to such classic artists as Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys while still having a distinct, longing voice. Excellent, complex compositions, well-written(and gorgeously sung) lyrics, fun dance remixes(from ND and STROMKERN!!) AND a surprisingly good cover of The Smiths "There is a Light That Never Goes Out" make this disc the best and most inventive piece of work to come out in years. Buy it. Love it. Buy it again and give it to a metalhead. They won't like it but at least it'll be another one sold. Just kidding, they'll cry in the bathroom to it. Metalheads are always closet synth fans.;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wearing my player out too., August 5, 2002

Like bloodlossgirl said, I'm also wearing my player out. This is a fantastic CD. The music is very well done and the lyrics are well thought out. The songs easily stick in your head and play on well after the CD is finished. I'm not a music expert but this is good stuff! Get it. Play it. You won't regret it.
