Slayer meets The Haunted,
This review is from: Subliminal Fear (Audio CD)
E-gads, just when you thought the SLAYER clone days were over, here we go again! To be fair, CORPORATION 187 are not a complete SLAYER carbon-copy but they sure make me feel like it's 1988 all over again when I listen to this. More precisely, this Swedish (who isn't Swedish these days???) Thrash outfit are a fusion of SLAYER and THE HAUNTED and indications from this outting lead me to believe they are going to give the latter a run for their money. Firstly allow me to express my appreciation for what the band have done here. Its refreshing to know that straight-ahead Thrash music hasn't gone completely extinct yet. CORPORATION 187 are just as convincing as the aforementioned bands even if they do sound a lot like a combination of both. A well recorded and executed 10-track Speed/Thrash assault, Subliminal Fear falls into that Old School category but has enough modern vibes running through it to make it an album for the new century. Intense and novel riffing abound here but one thing I took immediate notice of was the excellent drum work. In a guitar-dominated form of music such as Metal is, its easy to overlook the guy behind the kit. However, when you get your head pummeled by the merciless double-bass for the duration of this album, you'll gain a whole new appreciation for the unsung heros with the sticks. The chemistry that makes Subliminal Fear what it is a nice melding of frenzied guitar licks that sound like they're the leftovers off Reign In Blood (leads included), vocals that can easily be mistaken for being shouted by a certain Mr. Araya, and that oh-so-killer, break-neck drumming. Get this!

Average In Flames / Dark Tranquillity clone,

Perfection in Pain is a much better album. If you have it you can ignore this one. If not, log off now and go buy PiP. The songs and the playing is OK but it doesn't get you in the same mood as PiP. Sounds too much like 1000's of other Goetheburg clone bands.
