4.0 out of 5 stars Subs Against the Rising Sun by Keith Milton, April 10, 2005
This review is from: Subs Against the Rising Sun: U.S. Submarines in the Pacific (Hardcover)
This book contains the listings of submarines that were used by the US Navy against the Japanese in the Pacific in World War Two. These are broken down by class of submarine and then alphabetically. If you are looking for a book of lists : Lists of claims, lists of top scoring submarines, lists of top US Sub Commanders then this is the book for you. If you want to read about the actions of US Navy Submarines in the Pacific then "Silent Victory" by Blair or "United States Submarine Operations in World War II" by Roscoe are a better choice. For a researcher who wants to quickly look up information on submarines and targets then this is your book (95% Lists 5% Text).

Strong Points: The Useful index makes it very easy to look up submarines and thier targets which make this a great research tool.

Weak Points: Submarine claims lists in the book only give general locations such as South China Sea which is different than Roscoe's book which gives estimated Longitute and Latitude for claims. There is only one map in the book and this is a basic map of the Pacific.

If you have a collection of books on US Subs in the Pacific then this book would be a great addition. If you only want one book on US Subs then get Blair's or Roscoe's which are mixtures of reading text and submarine data.
