5.0 out of 5 stars INFORMILARIOUS
I thought this book had so much insight into the world of Substitute Teaching. It starts with the basics which you are assumed to know but don't until you've experienced it. I loved this book because through Karen & Pat's comedic experiences which they share with the reader, I was able to find out info of what to expect the first time subbing. You should purchase it...

1.0 out of 5 stars The Substitute Teacher's Survival Guide
This book was written to be humorous, but it isn't. It also is not helpful, let alone a survival guide, and it was a huge waste of money...($$$).

I loved this book because through Karen & Pat's comedic experiences which they share with the reader, I was able to find out info of what to expect the first time subbing. You should purchase it even if you don't sub. It's so funny and Patrick Nysveen's pictures just add the needed touch. Kudos to Karen & Pat. This book ROCKS!!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, April 21, 2001
By
This review is from: The Substitute Teacher's Survival Guide (Paperback)
This is a great book that gives all those little details ( that NOBODY else ever tells you) necessary for surviving substitute teaching. The authors give excellent suggestions regarding what to wear, what to do when there are no lesson plans as well as how to go about becoming a substitute teacher. The information is delivered with a great sense of humor that takes some of the intimidation out of going into the classroom. This is a very entertaining book!

Extremely entertaining but not what I expected. It definitly has some useful information and I do recommend it to all who are beginning to sub, along with those who are subs for the fun of reading. Overall, a good book just not what I expected.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hold the foul language!, April 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Substitute Teacher's Survival Guide (Paperback)
Did not appreciate the foul language author used in throughout the book. Why do people think it is necessary to use inappropriate lauguage and cussing to get their point across? As a mother and a teacher I strongly advise you to hold off on the foul language. I found it offensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!, March 26, 2001

This is a great book! It is not only informative but fun too. Wight and Simmons definitely know what they are talking about and have a great sense of humor along with it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know about teaching, not only for subs but for full-time teachers as well. This is also inexpensive and makes for a great gift. Great job!

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Prepared!, April 11, 2001
This review is from: The Substitute Teacher's Survival Guide (Paperback)
I know that if I were going to step foot into a classroom, I would want to read this book first. As Karen and Pat say, never let the kids get the upper hand because you'll lose them for the rest of the day. It is an absolute must to have some ideas of how to keep the kids occupied, and this book has some great ones! They already did the hardest part, which is thinking up creative projects and interesting activities, I almost think actually teaching won't be so difficult. By the way, this book really is hilarious. One time I was laughing so hard my cat bit me for disturbing her sleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide, April 8, 2001

This review is from: The Substitute Teacher's Survival Guide (Paperback)
This was an excellent read; very informative and helpful for anyone who is, or is looking to become, a substitute teacher. The sense of humor was a great touch, and the state-by-state requirements listing was very helpful. I'd recommend this book to anyone -- even those with no interest in becoming a sub!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Substitute Teachers' Survival Guide, May 3, 2008

It is a humorous book with cute art work, but the ideas are not particularly new.
