Format: Hardcover
A modern need could become a greater problem than oil shortages. "Substrate" is a novel about the possibility of an aberration in the world's computer chips, which could cause untold problems due to humanity's overwhelming dependence on technology. A scientist who sees the problem disregards it at first, but is soon confronted with the uphill battle of dealing with this dark reality. A gripping techno thriller, highly recommended for community library fiction collections.

It has been a long time since I have read a book that deals with fresh, innovative themes. T.D. Holt's combination of technology and faith are informative and thought-provoking. Not being a technology-savvy individual, I found that the sections dealing with chips were easy to follow, and that I learned a great deal about the science from the book. Also, the author's willingness to weave faith and religion into the novel provides a unique twist, which I have rarely encountered in recent reading. The author's attention to detail, in both the scientific and personal material, makes the book believable. My only warning is be careful....once you pick up Substrate, it will be impossible for you to put it down.

Substrate by T. D. Holt is an excellent read. This is the first time I have recommended a book before I was finished reading the book. Regardless of whether or not one resonates with the theme, the writing is superb. It is no exaggeration to compare the author's use of words with the great Raymond Chandler.

It is also intriguing the way the author weaves deep questions and reflections of most mortals into the fabric of the story. It is hard to believe that this story is fiction.

Read and enjoy.;
