Any worries that Hannah Fury wouldn't be able to sustain the quality levels set by her previous album "The Thing That Feels" should find this short EP very re-assuring. Each time I listen, I have a new favorite song. "Carnival Justice" might be the song that has grown on me most, however, I think fans of her previous work might first find themselves gravitating towards "My Next Victim" and "Girls That Glitter" both of which capture the Victorian gothic aura that is becoming her trademark.

From start to end this is a consistent EP and without any hesitation I can recommend getting it if you liked her previous work. If you are not familiar with her work, I might even say this is the best place to start.

I really wanted to give this 5 stars because there are so many positives about it. What stopis it from being a close to perfect album Fury's beautiful and unique voice floats over the music making it acheive, at it's height an almost plapable smoky ghostliness. Many bands have sort of aspired to this sound but I've bnever heard any pull it off with the skill that Fury does.

The only problem with this album is that sometimes its' campiness just goes a bit too far. This has always bween a part of Fury's work but on songs like "My Next Victim" and "Girls That Glitter Love the Dark" she takes it to new heights (or depths). Not that there is anything wrong with a little gothic schtick but someone of Fury's talent is capable of so much more than that as she capably demonstrates on beautiful un-ironic gems like "A Latch To Open".

So, in coclusion this is a beautiful album and one of the best of the last year and over-all a progression from Fury's earlier (very good) work. One of the five best albums I've heard in the last year probably. As long as you are willing to listen to some of it with toungue firmly in cheek. Light some candles and let the music swirl around you, you will enjoy and be richer for the experience.

Hannah has created the highest form of art- that which moves the listener to the point where they wonder how music so magnificent can actually exist- and it does. Subterfuge's lyrics are intricate rhymes woven into rich melodies- melodies resonating with deep stellar texture and overlapping harmonies. Each song on every album Hannah released is a rare gem, each with its own iridescent tint and polished surface, reflecting intriguing worlds. Her lyrics stretch far beyond the limits of conventional imagination but yet speak so well of life's realities. If there is a Muse of Music, she has clearly chosen Hannah as the vehicle through which perfect songs are to reach our society. Where angels sing in the dark woods of hopeful beauty, there you will find Hannah's songs playing in the trees, and sonically walking with you.
