Book Description

November 28, 2006 John Constantine, Hellblazer
Tonsell-by-the-Stream, a sleepy little village outside of London, is suddenly swallowed down into the earth through the hellish machinations of an ancient, ominous force. At the behest of an extraordinary supernatural agent -- and in exchange for the life of his best friend -- down-and-out and amoral occultist John Constantine must venture deep into underground shadows to investigate this cataclysmic occurrence. But unbeknownst to Constantine, something beyond his worst nightmares awaits below -- the deadly and phantasmagorical realm of the Sunless . . . a terrifying world where the Gloomlord rules over all with a sadistic and merciless hand, and Tonsell-by-the-Stream was only his first target on the surface world. . . .

I love Johnny Constantine in all his trench-coaty, cigarette-smokey glory. This book was another fun romp through the mess that is John Constantine.

I want more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, April 27, 2011
This review is from: Subterranean (John Constantine, Hellblazer) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this a little while ago, I found the writing was a little thin but overall a good story. He lacks some description especially in the beginning. I'll admit that one of my biggest draws to the Constantine saga is it's ability to dredge up the bowels of the Church. It seemed as though the author was frightened to bring up anything divine which is one of my biggest beefs, I had to keep checking the front cover to make sure I wasn't reading a harry potter book instead of a Constantine novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Super Reader, August 30, 2007
This review is from: Subterranean (John Constantine, Hellblazer) (Mass Market Paperback)
This one is a bit dull in the middle, helped to put me to sleep more than once. Start is ok, perks up in the end, too, as Constatine has to help defeat the Gloomlord, a human magus who has bound an elemental to his will to help power the magic that allows him to rejuvenate every day.

To this purpose, he sinks a small town in Cornwall down into his little Hollow Earth, to provide him with human grist for his magic mill.
