Book Description

Book 1 in the Subtle Lovers series.

Duse Ammadon has been without Skylar for over four hundred years and he'll not wait another minute. His life mate is the first to be reincarnated since the depraved Watcher, Asmoday, killed his brother's mate, forcing her into a sexual response, which robbed her of her magic essences. Now a whole world of criminal possibilities has opened to the once innocent race of Watchers. Because Duse knows Skylar could be the next target for Asmoday's depravity, he doesn't have the luxury of re-introducing Skylar to Watcher ways or for a slow, patient seduction. To set the protection spell, he has to make love to her immediately. If only she could remember him from one lifetime to another.

Skylar Halifax always knew she was different. She could see auras and manipulate subtle matter to promote healing. She sensed there was something unique about Duse, something beyond his god-in-man form and phenomenal good looks. Duse can't waste any time convincing Skylar that he is different. So different, in fact, that he's not even human.

Will Skylar accept Duse as her life mate or will Duse have to use other means to convince her that he is her destiny?

5.0 out of 5 stars Spicy, Sexy and Intense! January 30, 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I loved the whole premise of this series from the very beginning. Just the idea of subtle matter and the male Watcher feeding off his mate's release is brilliant. And despite Duse's male ego, their struggles to get together and stay together are the real kind - not what you find in a lot of novels. You know what I mean, where the hero/heroine says no just to push the story a few more pages. Their fears and insecurities are the type we all have - human and otherworldly beings alike. LOL

Between the steamy hot sex, the intense reactions of the two main characters to each other, and the tense storyline, you don't want to put this one down once you pick it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Subtle Magic January 22, 2010
Format:Paperback
Four hundred and eighteen years is a longtime to wait for someone, but that's how long Duse has been waiting for Devon to return to him. The Watcher knew his love would be reincarnated and the wait has been hell but the worst is yet to come. She finally returns to him as Skylar. Duse must make her believe she is meant to be his mate and consummate there relationship in order to keep her safe from Asmoday, a Watcher who has chosen the path of evil. Already responsible for the death of Duse's brother's mate, Asmoday will stop at nothing to bring despair to the Ammadon clan.

Skylar knew her ability to manipulate matter which leads to the power to heal was not something everyone could do and meeting Duse she knew he was special, but not as special as the stories he was trying to convince her were true. Skylar's ability and her beauty is more reason Duse needs to cast the protective spell around her as quickly as possible, as he will soon find Asmoday is not the only one he needs to protect her from.

Whenever I see a glossary in the beginning of a story, I know it will be a sit down and pay attention type of story and Subtle Magic is definitely that. It's an interesting read that's tackles a very complex story line that is highly sexually driven. Sex is the power of this story. Subtle Magic held my attention even though I was confused at times and had to re-read certain passages. There are so many strong characters that are vital to the story with their own stories that at times I found it to be too much. I applaud Beth Kery for keeping it straight, she really did a good job. Subtle Magic is a very intriguing story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Subtle Magic ( Subtle Lovers, Book One) August 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Beth Kery is a good writer. The world she creates reminds me of J.R. Ward's world of "Black Dagger Brotherhood". Creating a world that you would love to be in, if you're a paranormal kind of person. The book is steamy, hot, and erotic, but it also has some humor to it too. Imagine knowing that you have a soul mate in the world and your soul mate is taken from you by death, yet your soul mate can be reincarnated hundreds or even thousands of years later and you have to wait to have them in your arms again. I love Beth Kery's writing because she doesn't go on and on about describing the surroundings or use the first two chapters to describes the main characters abilities. Kery's characters come to life by her writing alone. The woman can write. I think if this is your kind of read, you will enjoy this book and the others that follow.
