About the Author

Peyton Price still thinks she could have been a contender. Instead, she's living the American dream in suburbia, along with her devoted husband, two above-average children, bonehead dog, uppity cat, six-year-old hermit crab, a tank full of tropical fish that nobody else seems to clean, and whatever is making that skritching sound under the kitchen sink.

I was so excited to finally get the chance to read Peyton's new book "Suburban Haiku: Dispatches from Behind the Picket Fence." You can't help but literally laugh out loud as you go through this book - if you live in the suburbs like I do, you read one of her haiku and you think "wow I could have written that." Her tongue in cheek observations about life behind the picket fence are so spot-on, particularly her musings on HOAs, the dreaded PTA, being a room mom trying to collect money for a glass gift, nosy and one-upping neighbors, and teen and tween life and drama in general. I so wish Peyton was my neighbor. I actually feel like she is my neighbor when I read this book :) Buy a whole pile of these books and give them to your friends and neighbors. At least the funny ones who don't take themselves and life in suburbia too seriously. (Really they do make great gifts!)

Comedy is a poetry of its own and Peyton Price has distilled both in Suburban Haiku: Poetic Dispatches from Behind the Picket Fence. This hardback version of her of her deliciously accurate suburban observations to keep me entertained when I'm not online reading her twitter feed.

You'll find laughs in Peyton's debut book with Running Press. Her Suburban Haiku falls under the “funny because it’s true” category. It also falls under the categories “witty,” “well-executed,” and “is she talking about me?”

Buy two copies. You'll want to give one away as a gift, it's that funny, and that pretty on the coffee table.

I have only one complaint about this book: my copy is not yet signed by the author.

As a long time fan of Price's "poetic dispatches," my reaction to the news of her new book went something along the lines of, "well it's about time." In 17 syllables, she tells the quintessential stories that pervade a suburban dweller's existence. From lawn maintenance and PTA heirarchy to book clubs and Target runs, Price truly captures the good the bad and the hilarity of life in the suburbs.

Suburban Haiku is perfect housewarming gift for a friend making that life changing move out of the city - or even to a fully entrenched suburbanite.

On the outside, this book is adorable - perfect for an ottoman or coffee table. On the inside, the humor and wit had me giggling and nodding as I read it in one sitting. I could have written many of these haikus (because I can relate, not because I have poetic talent), but they will amuse any reader regardless of age, gender, or suburban-ness. A great purchase for a girlfriend; just be sure to keep a copy for yourself!

Every year I find one thing that makes a perfect Mother's Day gift, buy several and give it out all to my favorite moms. Finding something I love enough to share with some of my very favorite people can be a challenge, but this year's go-to gift is a total no-brainer -- thanks to the recent release of Peyton Price's latest (and biggest) collection of Suburban Haiku.

I've been a fan of Suburban Haiku for years -- in just three short little lines, Price is able to convey thoughts and emotions and concepts that it can take some (ahem) seasoned writers paragraph after paragraph to communicate. She's a master at connecting; with every three lines, I found myself either laughing, getting teary, or just nodding my head and muttering "mm hmm" in that familiar "Preach it, sister" way.

Her first two self-published books were pitch perfect, so I was curious to see what (if anything) would change now that she's gone big-time. I was apprehensive about the watering down that can happen sometimes when a the big guys get hold of something that's naturally quirky and fun. But nothing changed here at all. This book is just as funny, heartfelt, and resonant as the others -- and that is saying something.

Another one out of the park for Peyton Price! I can't wait to share it with all the moms I know!

I may have lied a little in my title. Full disclosure: I'm already a fan of Suburban Haiku. I don't know her personally, but good lord she sings the song of my people. Observational humor is my favorite, and she does it so astutely, with so much humor and so little malice. Maybe you're wondering how funny haiku can be, how can she write a story in 5-7-5? But she does, she calls us out and lays us bare in all our Starbucks swigging, iPhone gazing, self sacrificing suburban existences. I love her even though I realize that I've almost fully adopted the stereotype of a sitcom parent, rushing and failing and sitting through trophy ceremonies. Thank you Peyton, for keeping it real. #burbz4lyfe

Ever since the day the internet blew up with its praise for this book, I've been curious if it was really as good as everyone was saying it is. And it was!
Never taking herself too seriously, these wonderful little windows into Suburban life kept me giggling throughout the entire book!
If you're "put off" by the concept of reading a book of Haiku, don't be. After all, this is NOT your Freshman English class Haiku, but three-lined portals into how a reluctant Soccer Mom gets it done.
If you like intelligent humor, you'll love this!
