Editorial Reviews

Legendary director Joseph Sarno returns to the world of sexploitation cinema with his first film in twenty years. Suburban Secrets bristles with a psychological and erotic intensity that is trademark Sarno, hearkening back to his past classics from the 1960s and 70s including the groundbreaking Inga, Sin in the Suburbs and Swedish Wildcats. Laura is a young, successful model living life large in New York City. The discovery that an ex-lover is having an affair with her aunt Cynthia becomes the perfect alibi that sends Laura back to her quiet suburban hometown to stir up the status quo. Laura’s return quickly ignites the passions and thinly concealed jealousies that smolder amongst her family members, friends and associates. Despite the threat of a tell-all expose detailing the town’s sordid sex scandal, what goes on behind closed doors will be more shocking than ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars suburban secrets, January 9, 2007

New Joe Sarno.I'd never heard of Joe Sarno till 18 months ago.Now I am a fan.His 1970's films such as Butterflies and Abigail Leslie are great fun.Unfortunately Suburban Secrets is not quite the same.It is a bit too long. The sexual scenes are obviously simulated and there is a bit too much girl girl for my liking. The packaging includes a shortened version but I haven't got round to watching it yet. There is some delightful viewing just the same. 4 stars

1.0 out of 5 stars A sad come back., April 5, 2010

Suburban Secrets is a sad comeback for Joe Sarno. The legendary sexploitation film maker, now in his 80's, was talked out of retirement to make another "After Dark" production. Whoever thought this was a good idea neglected to give him a decent budget, actors who could act, actors who were attractive, or more script than a pale rehashing of several of the themes from his old movies mishmashed together. There is no comparison between this repulsive effort and the very erotic better early films such as "All the Sins of Sodom", "Girl Meets Girl", or "Daddy Darling". The earlier movies had very good looking male and female leads, actresses with great bodies who could read lines, and real sexual tension. All of this is blatantly absent in this failure. They should have left Mr Sarno in a happy retirement basking in the glory of his better work decades earlier than to embarrass him and waste our time and money. Trying to cash in on his reputation with this slovenly production that wouldn't even be shown on late night cable is just sad.

I found this flick to be boring and often irritating for too much overdone phony breathing.
