Book Description

January 1995
Extensively revised from the first edition, this manual is the Acoustical Society of America's response to the critical need for a guide to aid colleges and universities in setting up meaningful and modern experiments in acoustics. Twenty-seven experiments contributed by twenty-three specialists cover the areas of measurement and analysis of sound, vibrations, musical acoustics, transducers, room acoustics, underwater acoustics, and audiometry and masking. These experiments will be useful and interesting not only for science departments --such as engineering and physics-- but also for nonscience departments -- such as speech and hearing, music, psychology, and architecture. Application of this material also extends to enviornmental studies, ocean engineering, and various aspects of biological and medical programs.

4.0 out of 5 stars A note on Evans's review of Subversive Virtue, June 16, 2006
As the author of Subversive Virtue: Asceticism and Authority in the Second-Century Pagan World (Penn State Press, 1995), I feel I need to alert readers to a peculiarity in the Amazon search. Searching the title of this book will also bring up a review by J.A.S. Evans which appeared in the Canadian Journal of History. This was the only negative review this book received but, unfortunately, it is also the only review that comes up in Amazon when searching the title of my book. Amazon customers should know that the book received a number of excellent reviews including: W.H.C. Frend, The Journal of Ecclesiastical History 48 (1997): 302-13; Maud W. Gleason, History of Religions 38 (1998): 98; and C.L. Hanson, Choice 33 (1995): 348.
