Great for First Time Writers,
By KP (Hoboken, NJ) - See all my reviews

This was a very informative portrayal of what it takes to succeed. As a first time writer, I needed a honest look at the effort it takes. I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of wit, sarcasm and straightforward thoughts.

Very Informative,
This review is from: How to Succeed in the Publishing Game (Paperback)
As a first time writer, I thought this book was very informative. It not only outlines the process for self-publishing, but gives insight into the publishing world in general in a humorous, easy-to-read format unlike many of the other instructional guides on writing. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in publishing or writing a book.

For the begining self-publisher,
By Book Fiend (Omaha, NE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: How to Succeed in the Publishing Game (Paperback)
This book is a smooth and quick read. I did think it was going to be more detailed, since she is the publisher, I thought she'd kinda put more of her personal strategies and tell more about her own pitfalls in the biz, (as what to avoid). There are some but they are brief. If you have read Dan Poynter's books, this will not really give you anything new. If you are new to the industry and need to know the basics on how to get started, this is great. Here's another book by, Aliona Gibson titled "For Black Writers...A Personal Account of how To Write, Publish, & Market your First Book" it is pretty good.

If You Don't Do It Well, Don't Attempt To Sell It,
This review is from: How to Succeed in the Publishing Game (Paperback)
Let me begin with giving credit for an A+ effort and taking the challenge of being an Owner of a Publishing Company as well as an Author.
While I enjoy books from Triple Crown Publications from 2003 - 2007, the constant typo's/errors/inaccuracies within the published books are distracting if not annoying and inappropriate. There is not one book I've read published by Triple Crown that doesn't have AT LEAST 10 obvious errors. Which brings me to: How does one attempt to sell me a book about how to publish books professionally yet is not practicing what is being preached? Perfect your craft, hire better editors/proofreaders to ensure you are delivering quality work and stop focusing on pumping out quantity. I've read books dating back to 2003 by Triple Crown. Which means you have branded Triple Crown in a negative fashion by not correcting this problem for at least the last four. Hence, your confirmation of acceptance of mediocre work being stamped as a job well done. Is that what you've worked so hard to achieve? I safely assume not. Even if you feel successful at the publishing game, imagine how much of an even greater success the organization would be if you crossed all your 't's and dotted all your i's. Demand a better scope of work from your team as your name is associated with errors - just something to consider. I am a PR professional and Talent Manager with 3 Authors as clients. I'd never refer my clients to Triple Crown due to SO MANY errors in the books for over years now. "We've Got To Do Better" - Charlie Murphy

Very Useful,

As an aspiring author, let's face it--its tough to make ends meet. If you've ever tried to submit your work to a major publishing company, you'll understand what I mean. Stringer and McPherson's book offers a down-to-earth, step-by-step approach to self-publishing--which Stringer has proven to be a more than viable alternative to big publishing houses. If you want some real direction in your literary career, pick up this title.

This book gives writers another option,
By
This review is from: How to Succeed in the Publishing Game (Paperback)
When a friend of mine brought me this book, I was a little skeptical, but I decided to read it with an open mind. I kept thinking about the time and of course the M-O-N-E-Y. The authors walked through the process, while keeping it simple, and occasionally sprinkled a little humor into this dry subject. In the end, I recommend that writers read this book, because it gives other writers and myself another option.

As the author of Hidden Credit Repair Secrets, I found this book to be very valuable. It provided great resources on how to promote and market your book. It went into detail on how to submit to magazines and other publications. Great resource.

General info, but still worth adding to collection,
By Rachel Blessing, author of The Rise of the Ho... (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews

I am not that big a fan of street lit (even though this isn't street lit, I still think of it as such because it is published by Triple Crown) so it was hard for me to pick this title up and read it without judging the content of the other books she has published. But after realizing she is successful in the publishing industry for a reason, I knew I needed to add this book to my library. It is not as detailed as I would have liked. She actually glosses over the details and gives a very general overview of the business. Still, its information that everyone who is interested in publishing should know. There are more detailed books out there about the (self) publishing industry but again, you can't deny there is something about Ms. Stringer.
