3.0 out of 5 stars An average good book
Is this a good book? Yes. Is this a great book? No.

In a nutshell, this book is basically a self-help on self-discovery. The author talks a lot about vision and purpose in life, but he does not define them. He directs his clients toward self-discovery.

The best part of the book is in chapter 1, "The Manic Society." After that, every chapter seems...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Intelligence Behind Success Intelligence, May 6, 2008

The Intelligence of Success Intelligence

Everyone has a book on prosperity nowadays. Most simply rehash many of the new thought ideas of the past century adding sparkling new pieces of pizzazz to the packaging and using marketing elements like it's a big "secret" for promotion. This not withstanding, there remains a good deal of potential wealth in these works for those unfamiliar with earlier versions. However, Success Intelligence transcends this collective body of typical prosperity works.

Dr. Robert Holden first shows the reader the errors of the success trap--more for more sake alone. He leverages his personal experience to illustrate the error in the pace as well as the vision held by most entrepreneurs and with a certain brilliant wit shows us how to get more with less.

Over and over again Robert relates one's work with their lives and relationships in ways that build both confidence and respect--confidence in oneself and respect for self and others. The bottom line, create a success vision that is authentic (the real you), liberating, packed with joy and one that does not get lost in "sick hurry."

Eldon Taylor, author of the New York Times best seller, Choices and Illusions: How Did I Get Where I Am, and How Do I Get Where I Want to Be?

In a nutshell, this book is basically a self-help on self-discovery. The author talks a lot about vision and purpose in life, but he does not define them. He directs his clients toward self-discovery.

The best part of the book is in chapter 1, "The Manic Society." After that, every chapter seems to be the same. He just talks about the same topic from different angles using different terms. The book is like a two dimensional space, lacking the third dimension and therefore depth or much substance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Success Intelligence is spot on. If you'd like to enjoy a more fulfilling life, buy this book!, May 28, 2008

In this time of manic busyness, Robert's book is like a breath of fresh air. Do we really need to be so busy, or are we being too busy to notice what's really important and worth our attention - and what isn't? Are we going in a direction that we believe will lead to a better life if we just work enough, sacrifice and struggle enough, or could we be enjoying a more fulfilling and meaningful life now?

These are just a few of the subjects this amazing new book covers. Following on from the highly acclaimed Happiness NOW!, this book adds to the message of following your joy to questioning and deciding what success really means for you. I highly recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A religious interpretation of the meaning of human life, March 3, 2009

This book / audio CD examines many important issues in contemporary human life in the western societies. What is and isn't success, failure, money, love, happiness, speed of living, purpose in life and many others are discussed in detail by the author. He gives his personal opinions and also raises some thought provoking questions for the reader. The reader's answers do not have to be the same as that of the author's. What is important is to think about them. Because in hectic life most people do not take the time to think about life's important questions. There are success intelligence tips at the end of each subject where the author gives some thinking exercises to the reader. So it is not just about philosophy but also about applications to change one's lifestyle to get on the right track. I agree that most people have lost a sense of direction and purpose in life as they run around crazy and hectic to get through life.

All throughout the book / audio CD the author makes frequent references to God and to the prophets. He does not praise any religion over the others. Although the ideas he puts forward are not necessarily religious his approach is still from a religious perspective. That's OK if this is what the reader is looking for.

In the audio CD I found his voice dull and boring. I don't think that the voice should have been excessively excited like many motivational speakers do. But his voice should have been a little more energetic. He hasn't used humor at all. The topics are serious but a little bit of humor without exaggeration could have made the audio CD less boring to listen to. OK, the purpose is not to make the readers / listeners laugh in this book but this method is very boring when I compare it with many other self help books I read.

For readers who are interested in topics such as finding a purpose in life, success, happiness, organizing life effectively I recommend that they read the following books before this one. I think they treat more or less the same subjects much better :

* The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and First Things First by Stephen Covey,
* Man's Search For a Meaning by Viktor Frankl
* Happier by Tal Ben Shahar
* The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz

The Power of Full Engagement explains among others the method of positive rituals to change our habits for the better. It is very difficult to apply the many good advice in self help books without changing habits first. The do's and don'ts given in most self help books including in Success Intelligence are good ideas but usually difficult to put into practise because they require deep changes in habits. The Power of Full Engagement suggests an effective method to develop positive habits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Success Intelligence - A Huge Insight, June 4, 2008
By
This review is from: Success Intelligence: Essential Lessons and Practices from the World's Leading Coaching Program on Authentic Success (Hardcover)
Roberts book is a brilliant insight into the work culture that we assume is correct. Take time out to read this and you will wonder what has happened to your reasoned views on how intelligently we approach work and our work life balance. Review what Robert teaches and apply the principles to your life so that it becomes more peaceful and your behaviours become more loving, both to yourself and others.
Great teacher, great book.
Thank you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat repetitive, January 6, 2009
This review is from: Success Intelligence: Essential Lessons and Practices from the World's Leading Coaching Program on Authentic Success (Hardcover)
While I haven't finished this book, I have found the first few chapters to be fairly repeptitive. The author spends a lot of time discussing our hectic schedules; I got it after the first discussion. There are some very good ideas, so I'll keep with it, but I think the length of the book could have been condensed.
