Book Description

May 2001
Success @ Life is timely and inspiring. It is a guide for twenty-first century Zentrepreneurs on how to achieve goals, catch and live their dreams, liberate their natural energies, and—most importantly—to live lives of passion and purpose. Quite simply, it is a book that changes attitudes. And sometimes, that is all it takes. Without changing anything else, if you change your attitude, you can change everything else. Indeed, you can change the world.—From the "Ministers" of The Republic of Tea, one of the fastest growing and successful beverage brands in America today.

As the leading purveyor of only the finest teas and herbs in the world, The Republic of Tea is a progressive, socially conscious California company that was founded in 1992 by the co-creators of The Banana Republic. In 1994, an entrepreneur named Ron Rubin bought and took charge of the company, and shortly thereafter marketing veteran Stuart Avery Gold joined him in the company's mission to create a Tea Revolution. Applying ancient and contemporary wisdom, the two self-described Zentrepreneurs have guided The Republic of Tea into an enormous success, capturing the imagination and loyalty of its customers by maintaining its high ideals despite the aggressive nature of today's business.

Rubin and Gold's unusual—and highly successful—approach to business and life has brought them numerous speaking invitations from colleges and organizations nationwide. The most often asked question: What is their secret? Their answer in a nutshell: If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. Is it possible for anyone to live the life they imagine? Yes, say Rubin and Gold, if they prepare their mind to do so. In these pages, Rubin and Gold share their personal experiences and their philosophy of "enlightenment and discovery" for living a happy, fulfilled life-in the hope that others will learn to journey down a path that will allow them to catch and live their dream.

While an entrepreneur creates a business, a Zentrepreneur creates a business and a life.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The "Ministers" of the Republic of Tea, a successful, socially conscious company (immortalized in Ziegler et al.'s The Republic of Tea), encourage the pursuit of dream careers. Familiar prescriptive steps understand yourself, set goals, find mentors come in an appealing and inspiring tone. New employees and entrepreneurs will find help identifying emotional and psychological needs, but not nitty-gritty financial or managerial advice.

From Booklist

A decade ago, Mel and Patricia Ziegler, who also founded the Banana Republic clothing store, started the Republic of Tea, a seller of specialty teas. They formed a partnership with entrepreneur Bill Rosenweig, and the trio published The Republic of Tea: Letters to a Young Zentrepreneur (1992), a collection of enthusiastic correspondence between the Zieglers and Rosenweig that led to the start of the company. In 1994 Rubin read that book and soon ended up buying the company. Gold came aboard shortly thereafter. Calling themselves the Minister of Tea and the Minister of Travel, the pair maintained the company's quirky, New Age-ish outlook and philosophy. Adding their own slangy, hip imprint to the Zieglers' original concept, Rubin and Gold say they are now compelled to provide for others the "essence of what it takes to succeed, to live the life [one] imagine[s] and dream[s] of." Although their advice may be too mellow for coffee drinkers, they succeed in offering an alternative view of how to do business. David Rouse

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST ADVICE, June 10, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Success @ Life: How to Catch and Live Your Dream, A Zentrepeneur's Guide (Success at Life) (Hardcover)
Success At Life is the best motivational business/life book I have come across. As a follower of Tony Robbins personal power dictums, I found Rubin and Gold's philosophies and experiences to be more real world and authentic. This is a book for realists that does away with the usual self-help babble presenting instead a hip, witty style that provides you with a want to and will do attitude for success. The book's underlying message is that we all need to learn how to enjoy the journey-Success At Life it is a great ride.

As a graduate business student it is refreshing to read a book which focuses not only on making money, but also on enjoying life. I found the book to be both practical and motivating. It makes you ask yourself the question, "Why aren't I doing that?" The advice on finding a mentor is invaluable. A great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rare Gem of Inspirational Success!!! Very well written!!!, December 20, 2001

This review is from: Success @ Life: How to Catch and Live Your Dream, A Zentrepeneur's Guide (Success at Life) (Hardcover)
I must have read over 300 books on success having been a Dale Carnegie Instuctor and a Tony Robbins trainer. This book by Ron Rubin and Stuart Gold is a truly outstanding guide for any person committed to the duel task of being financially successful and making a difference. The advice is profound. And the writing style is really a treat....funny, clever lines, and well-chosen quotations pepper this book for the reader's enjoyment. They even do a great job of downplaying the Zen-spiritual part which can be a turn-off to business-minded people who are skeptical of the New Age approach to success. This is one of those unique books that blends the New Age with the nitty-gritty of making big bucks and living your dream.

Tony Robbins says, "live with passion" and this book shows you how.

This is simply a great book!...
