More About the Author

My business/career writing career began by accident. Although I spent a great amount of time writing and reciting poetry to college groups, I also counseled prelaw and premed students. One day I wrote an article about the career opportunities in the health field and submitted it to Essence Magazine. The editors asked me to write the monthly "Work It Out Column." The rest is history.

I found myself writing "The Black Woman's Career Guide," the first book to document Black women in corporate America. I went on to write other books including Success Strategies for African Americans(Dutton), How To Change Careers (Putnam), Careers for Women Without College Degrees (McGraw-Hill), Oportunidades De Carreira Para Mulheres Sem Cursos Universitarious (McGraw Hill, Brazil), How to Choose a Career (Longmeadow Press)and How to Re-Enter the Workforce (Longmeadow Press). In 2008, I was commissioned to write So You Want To Become..a Career Guide for Young People (Lorraine Monroe Institute). My new book How To Become A Black CEO and Corporate President: Top Leaders Share Their Wisdom is due out September 2010.

Today, I am considered a highly respected Business Leadership Expert, Author and Speaker. I spent more than ten years in corporate America as a Career Management Consultant and Senior Associate. As a speaker, I have spoken to over 100,000 people at various colleges, universities, women's groups, African American professional associations, etc. I specialize in women in management and diversity in the workplace.

In addition, I have a lot of media experience. I have appeared in numerous newspapers across the country. I was the guest on over 50 radio and television shows. I have also written for or been quoted as an expert for the following publications or web sites: Diversity MBA Magazine; Essence Magazine; Essence.com; Black Enterprise.com; Ebony; The Network Journal; Unity First.com; Family Circle; Glamour; Womenof.com and others.

I enjoyed reading this book and it was very helpful. They did a good job of breaking the book up into sections and you can just read the areas that are most important to you at the time and the others at a later time. I enjoyed reading this book and will refer to it time and time again.
