Tom Anastasi gives a practical, no nonsense approach to small business success from start to selling a business. His personal experience as a business owner, a business consultant, and professor of leadership and human resources provides a wealth of knowledge to the reader. There are four phases covered -- Start up which emphasizes whether you are a fit as a small business owner, marketing research, raising capital, and making the go/no go decision; Being the Boss goes into the issues of having employees and leadership; Sales and Marketing provides pricing models, budging, and sales as well as sales management stratgeies; finally in Years Two through Five, you learn that success in small business requires perseverance and reality checks along the way. The case studies and appendices are very helpful to bring the points home and provide implementation support. If you have a small business dream, this is a great book to bring your dream to reality.

Great practical hands on book! Having taught Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, I try to provide the students will the best resources available. This book is certainly one of those resources. I would recommend "The Successful Entrepreneur" to business students or anyone considering starting their own business. It could mean the difference between success or failure. "The Successful Entrepreneur" is definitely a must read and a best reference for any entrepreneur or small business owner!

I have read dozens of books on small business management and entrepreneurship. They are all good, but most of them really just lay out a bunch of common sense check lists, or maybe some good general advice. They don't tell you how to do all the practical things you need to do - how to hire and pay your salespeople, etc. But THIS BOOK DID! It answered all those practical questions I had. It had some good general advice, too, but the reason you should buy it is to get answers to practical questions.
