5.0 out of 5 stars A great reference source!

1.0 out of 5 stars Fooled by the cover
I have purchased many exellent photo books through Amazon.

But this book is purely trash. The pictures are the kind you will find in german/english
page 3 newspapers.

Alle the pics are early 80's (book first published 1988), and this is clearly a poor
reprint, without much added in 2005.

If you like page 3 girls, ok...

I've owned John Kelly's book now for the past year, along with a dozen other glamour photography books. I find myself constantly referring back to John's book for useful ideas on posing, lighting and other practical tips. His book successfully addresses glamour photography from the photographer's point of view. He stays away from photographic recipes and instead focuses on sharing the skills to allow the creative mind to develop their own styles and recipes. The photography within is top notch and the models are all gorgeous - no second string here. The book is broken into three main sections: the model, outdoor locations, and indoor locations. My favorite section is his in-depth coverage of the model, body types, basic makeup, and how to work with models on a professional level. I found that his outdoor location section to be excellent as well, but the indoor studio is a bit dated - as to be expected considering the date of publishing. Still, though this book is now sixteen years old, it is one of the best on the market.

The articles are very informative. The writing style is very clear and readable even for the amatures. The pictures of the ladies are very gogerous and fit very well with the accompanying texts. Lots and lots of clues on how to use lighting and camera angles in this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to glamour photography, September 17, 1998
By A Customer
I found Kelly's book well written and informative. He covers all the important topics although some (such as make-up and finding locations and props) rather cursorily. I also think his presentations on equipment and on lighting are limited. He nicely emphasizes the importance of the interaction between the model and the photographer, which is essential for effective glamour work. All in all, I found it quite useful and believe it worthwhile for anyone beginning to shoot glamour; beginning photographers should start with a more basic text.

1.0 out of 5 stars Outdated glamour, September 12, 2005
This book would have been a nice try about 25 years ago. Now it is outdated and oldfashioned. The genre has developed rapidly, and the 'glamour' of the 80's is not so glamorous any more. The pictures look aged, and, then, we have the digital world nowadays - just an information for the writer ;)

Great information but at the price of some really bad images really keep this book from being a definitive source.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really nice book, June 3, 2001
By A Customer
I read this book after reading a couple of others on Glamour photography. John Kelly writes with a style that is easy to read and the images were outstanding. This book is a great reference that I am happy to own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Among the best insructional guides for the beginner, January 30, 1997
By A Customer
When I decided to become a professional fashion, and celebrity photographer, this was the first book I bought. It was a very wise buy! John Kelly gives you the straight-forward, practical advice to get started right away. Although John's work is very much like what graces the pages of Playboy Magazine, his advice will be of great help to any photographer who must work with models. His Technical advice will also be useful to anyone who shoots the 35mm camera with color film, which encompasses nearly everyone! The images in this book are of beautiful women, exposing their lovely charms in tasteful, exotic, and erotic ways! A very good book to start with. 5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed and easy to read, February 28, 2000
I am an beginner when it comes to photography. I wanted a book that had details from equipment, lighting techniques, to picking a model. Shows the picture with a description of how the equipment was arranged, and what was used. A great book at a great price.
