As I always struggle taking minutes and it is an important part of my job I was looking for a book to help me to improve this skill. I have found this book to be invaluable especially the checklist at the back. I now feel happier taking minutes and as this used to be a job I dreaded, I feel this book is a must for anyone else in the same situation as me.

I recommend the guide as the material covers the importance of the skills: word processing, listening and proof reading bring to minute taking. The use of these skills are comparable to steps used as counterchecks for planning and support of the organizational process minute taking demands. Also set out is the importance of sending the agenda prior to the meetings and this gives confidence to the structure of the important task of being acquainted to the topics of the meeting. Very useful examples of Agendas and Minutes.

The book is structured, clear and logical. Practical exercises that make you deepen in all the process, starting on the types of meetings, their purpose and benefits and the reasons why we need the minutes of them. Taking minutes has a "before" and an "after that sometimes are more important than taking the minutes itself.

This is the worst book (really more like a pamphlet) that I have ever seen, and I have seen some doozies. The author is supposedly a world-traveling trainer, but I can't imagine any serious company using her to train their administrative assistants. The book includes strange references to online "resources" to help learn things like speedwriting, yet when you visit these resources, they are just links to her website selling other "books" she has written. This book does NOT help you learn how to record minutes whatsoever. It jumps ALL over the place, going from conjugation of verbs to using consistent tense (past, present, future), but doesn't give any information that I found helpful. This one is going back today.

I have not yet finished the book but I am really enjoying it. It is a great reference tool for taking meeting minutes, especially if you have never taken minutes before. Great ideas and I love the practice sections of the book. I would highly recommend it. I have been an administrative assistant for years and just trying to brush up on my techinques as I have not taken minutes at meetings before and looks like that will soon become a new part of my job. This book is very easy to understand and has great sections that I will be refering back to over and over again.
