A must for first time missionaries!,

This review is from: Successful Mission Teams: A Guide for Volunteers (Paperback)
Martha has condensed into a small 228 page book all the essential information needed for one to fulfill his or her call to God's service. The first two chapters prepare you both spiritually and logistically for the trip. Chapter three helps you travel and survive giving tips on security, food choice and health. Chapter four helps the reader understand the teamwork needed and how to get things done in other cultures. The book closes with help returning home and a specific chapter on Disaster Assistance. Should be required reading for all interested in mission work.

It's an OK book, however not what I was looking for. Covers a lot of the practical aspects of planning a mission trip which is important.

Successful Mission Teams: A Guide for Volunteers by Martha Van Cise
This a a good volunteer Short Term Mission (STM) book. The last 3 chapters about disasters at home - earthquakes, flooding etc. are unique in the STM books i have read. Very helpful length chapters (28 chapter i think!) and covers many topics written by an experienced missionary with good case examples / stories / anecdotes. How not to do it! The attitudes of some who have supposedly come to serve, yet whine and whinge! Educational and informative and whilst any STM book is a good investment any book that covers more items than less is a better investment with richer dividends in the realm of practical working. Another STM book, Mission Preparation Training - How to prepare for your short-term mission trip more spiritual orinetated about knowing where to go, seeking God's will, evangelism, teaching and power for ministry, but the ebst STM book i have read is How to Plan, Prepare and Successfully Complete Your Short-Term Mission - For Volunteers, Churches, Independent STM Teams and Mission Organisations. The ... and those Planning a Christian Gap Year T
